I am sure many of you have heard that they are not having the TLC Halloween Parade this year. I believe it was said that “it brings too many people into the hospital.” Well of course it does! Who does not want to see our little ones running around in costumes that their teachers so proudly helped them make?
It has been a tradition that TLC has had with Helen Hayes Hospital for many years. A tradition I am sure that TLC’s former director would be very sad to hear come to an end. This parade brings so much happiness and joy for the children, parents, grandparents, extended family, hospital staff, and patients alike.
I do not know if this petition will save the Halloween Parade, but it will show how much it means to us. So please get the word out and have as many sign this petition who do not want to see such a happy event taken away from us, and more importantly taken away from our children who look forward to making their costumes and wearing them with so much pride, Thank you.

The hospital administrators think they can just cancel our tradition and hope we forget about it. They are wrong because I am spending my time digging into their excuses while they continue to ignore the joy they are stealing from our children.

The hospital administration thinks they can just cancel a lifelong tradition and expect us to go quietly. This surge of support proves they are dead wrong and shows them exactly how much this community values our kids over their bureaucratic excuses.

I've watched this parade for years as an employee, and the last three as a proud parent. I always look forward to it, the TLC teachers do such a great job...and the patients at the hospital really enjoy it too. Don't we want people at the hospital? Maybe a different location within the hospital would work?
We so enjoyed finally having our daughter participate in her 1st parade last year with the fish room. Hopefully a compromise can be worked out so this tradition will carry on and memories can continue to be made!
I am so sad that the Halloween parade will not happen this year. I thoroughly enjoy seeing my grandson last year and was looking forward to see my 1 yr old granddaughter this year. Very sad.
This is something I look forward to every year. It is defiantly a bright spot in everyones day. Especially the parents and the patients at Helen Hayes!

Our little one's enjoy getting all dressed up in their costumes and showing off for those who need alittle cheering up! Everybody wins!
In a world full of Netflix and computer games, it would be a nice outlet for children to be able to express themselves in a creative and fun way.

The Halloween parade is important for our patients as well. One of my favorite memories as a therapist is treating a head injury patient who we spent much our sessions encouraging him to participate and stand. On the day of the Halloween parade, we brought him to the 2nd floor to watch the parade. He stood up for 30 min and smiled the whole time! It was the only time I ever saw this patient smile during his stay.
