The Springfield High School Athletic Director has removed Field Hockey as a fall sport for Springfield, stating due to lack of players. The players, coaches and parents are devastated that a sport we all love so much is being discontinued. We currently have enough players to support the next two years. We are asking for help from the Springfield Community, please sign this petition to show your support to keep field hockey an offered sport at Springfield High School.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you have stepped up to help keep our team alive. Getting toward this next number is purely because of the effort you have all put in and I truly have no words for your kindness. Let us keep this energy moving forward to show them how much this sport belongs at our school.

As a former player, apart of the 2016 championship team, field hockey should not be removed. Sports play a pivotal role in youth development and particularly for girls it helps increase their confidence and self esteem.
Our daughter began her interest as a second grader when they offered an open age summer Camp. Her love of the sport helped take her thru college and then on to coaching college field hockey for 10 more years! Help support girls field hockey….help encourage women’s athletic ability!!!
You need to keep field hockey accessible for the students that want to play. There are enough players for the next two years so keep it going. You take away so much from these kids. Try recruiting more players. Let them know they can get PE credits. Keep them active and involved!
I don't have a child, but I feel this needs to be addressed and the sport needs to stay. These girls need their outlet, it builds self-respect, leadership, strong relationships, and so much more. The future needs strong women, and I strongly believe that it starts with the sports they play. Keep field hockey in Springfield!!!
This is a travesty, if the program did not have enough students it should be a consideration. However this program has continued for years using recycled equipment while other sporting activities yearly get new equipment.

I played this sport from 3rd grade through my senior year of high school. This sport has meant the world to me and I know it means a lot to this team. Please keep it going.

I graduated from SHS in 1989, and was a member of the 1986 State Championship team. Field Hockey is a wonderful sport of skill and stamina. Women's athletics are so important -- so many life lessons learned in being part of a team, and where lifelong friendships are made. Please find a way to keep a field Hockey team at SHS.
