The Delaware school board has brought a formal review of the Delaware Academy of Public Safety and Security aka DAPSS on their charter. This school recruits high school ages students who have an interest in the first responders careers, police, firefighters, and paramedics. The school board charges that they are not meeting the number of students as outlined in the charter. The school wants to lower the number in the charter. It is a special school that develops and encourages the brother/sister hood of the first responder family. And now we need your support. It is vital that this school stay open. Current enrollment is 228 children, in a small state like Delaware that’s a huge amount of possible first responders. The school is extremely diverse, with over 55% of the students being a minority and almost 40% of those students are from below income families. We must keep this school open. Please sign the petition and if you are a first responder please indicate such. Thank you, I know the brotherhood and sisterhood of the first responder family will not let us down!

The school board is holding a vote soon and our current enrollment numbers remain the core of their argument against us. I am drafting a formal testimony to present at the next meeting regarding the importance of this unique program. Send an email to your local representative today to demand they protect the future of these students.

The momentum behind this effort is undeniable and it proves that our community refuses to let this specialized training institution close. Now is the time to turn this energy into direct action by sending an email to your local representative to demand they protect these students.

This school is a great school and i would hate to see it go. I am graduating from there this year and have been going there since freshman year and have done nothing but excelled and became greater than before.

Please leave this school open. My brother/coach Rodney Burruss has dedicated 3 years to loving the students and staff. Thank you.

It is with my earnest and deepest plea that reconsideration be given to this situation. Our communities are in great need of programs designed to create positivity within and outside the educational sector. Men and women are giving their time, talents and treasures to children in under privileged communities to inspire, enhance and promote self-esteem and self-worth in children with already limited access to places such as DAPS.

This school gives the kids direction and discipline like no other school I have seen. This would be a major blow to the community if this were to happen. The amount of volunteer hours speaks for itself!

First responders, police, firefighters, and paramedics are an important part of our lives. They all work to protect, serve and save lives. I feel it is vital that this school stays open as it concentrates on maintaining education those who are choosing this as a career path. This career path provides benefits and support our entire community. Sending prayers and asking for more prayers to support adjusting the charter.

Preparing children for the work force is key. This school graduates students prepared to immediately join the workforce as 911 dispatchers, EMTs and/or Firefighters. It also prepares them to move forward into various law enforcement professions as well. Very few schools can say they graduate students fully prepared to enter the workforce.
