This petition is to keep the Brooker Braves name. We have had this mascot since 1961 and it should stay. Brooker is Brandon, Florida history, part of who we are as Brandon. The money it would cost to hire people and redo all the mascots around our school would amount to wasted time and money . That money could be used to help improve the school, by buying technology, or adding a new class. It is an honor to have our school named after the Native Americans. Please keep our name the Brooker Braves, for the ones who attended before us and those who will attend after us keeping the tradition, of the Braves alive.

The opposition has been loud lately but the stories I hear from alumni keep me going through the fatigue. I am spending my evenings gathering the facts we need to present our case to the board members. We are not backing down until our history is respected.

One hundred people have signed on to keep our name. It is exhausting to keep explaining why our history matters but seeing these names makes the fatigue easier to handle.

The climb toward one hundred names is exhausting but necessary if we want the school board to take us seriously. We need to push through this fatigue and get those last few signatures before the meeting begins.

All of my 3 sons where 'Braves' and now their kids are Braves! Save the Braves. Even our grand-daughters thinks is 'stupid' to change "their" mascot. Com'on adult leaders be responsible and not political!!
As the parent of children who will be attending Brooker next year, I was a bit taken aback when I saw the mascot, as I saw it to be culturally insensitive. I support wanting a change in mascots. I prefer for it not to be part of my kids’ future history.
There are so many more important things to spend money on! Come on people how about new technology for the school how about a raise for the teachers! Keep Brandon as the Brandon Brooker Braves because that is something to be proud of.
As a lifelong resident of Hillsborough County and a proud graduate of East Bay HS (Go Indians). I am appalled un-elected staff would decide to take away our history. This should be debated among elected members (accountable to the people) of the School Board.
Being the Braves in no way dishonors Native Americans. Rather, it gives tribute to those who were here long before us. Gives people a reason to want to research and learn about Native Americans. I know I sure did when I was a Brooker Brave back in Elementary school.

I am a product of a Chicago High School that is currently fighting their Superintendent over our our mascot -Lane Tech Indians. I fully agree with the statements in this petition and gladly sign this in support of these Students.
