This petition is intended to garner as many signatures as possible with the ultimate result of saving the Hillel Panthers. It has come to our attention that the powers that be at Hillel are looking to change the name of the school hockey team to "The Heat" to promote uniformity and school spirit. It is our belief that although the intentions are good, this could not be farther from the truth. The Hillel Hockey Panthers have a proud history since 1991. Many have worn the paw and remember their time on the team fondly and wish to keep the team as they remember it, about pride, hard work, and determination. It is a team that always represented the underdog in us all. We stand together in saying that SHOULD the school want to unite the teams under one uniform name, then ALL teams in the school should do so. The effect of the change proposed by the current administration ONLY seems directed at the hockey team. We recommend that ALL teams be changed to the same name (an example would be The Hurricanes) regardless of sport and sex. Unless the administration intends to do so in such a manor we sign here in protest of the decision to alter a big part of out school history and past.
