Save MTMS Traditional Veterans Day Ceremony!
Monticello Trails Middle School has had a Veterans Day Ceremony for years and has become a great tradition in our school! We want to keep our tradition going!
Our principal, Melissa Hansen, originally decided not to do anything this year at MTMS for Veterans Days. Some of us students found this out two weeks before Veterans Day and started asking questions as to why. We met with the principal and we were still not happy that we were not doing our traditional Veterans Day Ceremony. We did not want to stop there and continued to see what we could do to get it back. Here are a few of the things we have done in the very short time:
- One student ordered t-shirts to hand out "Save MTMS Veterans Day Tradition"
- Emails were sent to the superintendent and school board.
- Media was contacted and Fox 4 KC covered the story and here is a link of their coverage. http://fox4kc.com/2017/11/06/shawnee-eighth-grader...
- Paper petitions have been started and now starting this electronic petition.
Some of us are meeting with the principal on Wednesday, Nov. 15th, after school to discuss the events of this year's Veterans Day and plan for next year. We want to collect as many signatures as possible to show our principal how many students, parents and veterans want to keep our tradition.
