It was confirmed there will be no formal 8th grade graduation/promotion ceremony at YMS this year for the graduating class of 2015. This has been a time-honored tradition every year and the decision was made citing parking/crowd issues causing it to be unsafe. Also, it has lost the meaning. Update as of 6/1/2015 I have spoken to a Mrs Kathy Anderson who works as the assistant to Mr. Shimp our Superintendent and she said if we want them to reinstate a 8th grade Graduation Ceremony to get as many parents and students to attend the next school board meeting on June 8th at Yorkville High School to take a stand and say that we want the Graduation reinstated. Update: We spoke to Mrs.Adler tonight 06/03/2015 by phone finally and she said this petition means nothing to her and she accused us of faking all of the signatures on this petition. She said the graduating class of 2014 took a vote and decided they didnt want a ceremony so they adopted that decision and that is what they are gonna continue to do. She claims to have talked to area junior highs and they all say they are doing away with graduation ceremonies as of 2008 and started doing a small celebration in school with just the students. We spoke with Mr Shimp boss who will be present at the monday night board meeting at Yorkville High School on June 8,2015 at 7:00pm who is willing to listen to any parent that wants to be heard. We have contacted all local media station and they want to get a statement from the school before coming out .We informed them of the upcoming meeting on monday evening. Please continue to show your support by signing and sharing this petition. If our efforts fall on deaf ears we will have a fundraiser for the students to have a ceremony at a venue with their families to celebrate our students accomplishments.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the support you have shown for our students. If we can reach that hundred mark before the board meeting it would show those in charge that this really matters to our community.

I have an 8th grade honor student, I'm new to Yorkville, been in the district 2 years and I'm not happy about this. My daughter deserves a graduation. Transition to Highland School is huge and they get Nothing! Not happy!

Bring back the 8th Grade Graduation, it is important to our children and is a right of passage in their journey through school. Why does one person get to make this decision when there are 420 kids in the 8th grade this year. Shame on you Mrs. Adler for taking this away from our son and his classmates!

When our son was in 8th grade they did have a graduation ceremony & now our daughter is in 8th grade & we will not get to see her graduation. I think they should bring it back for the kids. Our daughter says she never voted on having a graduation or not.

My mom didn't get an 8th grade graduation in Yorkville due to moving at the end of 8th grade from a town that had 9th grade graduation...this was approx. 57 years ago...I've heard about this my whole life...don't make any other children have this regret.

Our children deserve a ceremony after nine years of hard work and dedication. If crowding and traffic is an issue perhaps the students could be recognized by team at alternate times.

Academic achievements are important to celebrate. Special ed too. This is a milestone that I believe the district has overlooked. Parking can be orchestrated accordingly. The ceremony can be simple acknowledging their 8 years of grammar school. Hopeful they will reconsider under the appropriate circumstances.

This is complete bs for these children that worked hard and want appreciation just like teachers get a day each year for doing their job they choice to do.
