Meals on Wheels is an organization that delivers nutritious food to people who are unable to get it themselves, mostly to the elderly. They serve healthy meals, as well as providing company to people who have mobility disabilities and don't get to socialize often. When a meal is delivered, a safety check is done to decrease the risk of accidents, and it is estimated that Meals on Wheels saves the U.S. $34 billion in lowering the rate of falls. Now, Meals on Wheels is in danger, with its government funding planned to be cut in 2018. This foundation serves 2.4 million seniors per year, and with the budget of its primary source of funding, the Older Americans Act, being cut by $3 million, it will surely limit the organization to a small amount of people that they can serve. Our senior citizens helped shape this country to what it is today, and it's time that we give back to them.
