Longview High School, a small alternative school, with a maximum of 60 students, is risking relocation. We are our own building, separate from any big school. We have our little safe haven on top of the hill above Red Rocks Community College, Mclain High School, And Warren Tech. What makes us so different, is we are an alternative school. We are not a program. The Jeffco school board has proposed that our school be relocated into the Mclain High School building. We can not let this happen. This will not only take away our building, our home, it will eventually turn Longview High School into a program within Mclain, a school within a school. Many students have expressed that if they had seen Longview as a school within a school, they wouldn't even have applied. They wouldn't be getting their diplomas, but would be at home, working full time, struggling to get a GED. This school is so much more than just a school, it is a safe haven, and escape, a home. If we are moved into a large school building, the entire atmosphere will change, effectively making Longview obsolete. This school has not only saved the education, but the lives of many young adults, and we can not let this school dissapear. On Thursday the 16th of February a bunch of students all went and met with a school board member, and pleaded with them to consider changing their decision. Many students, including myself, were in tears at this decision. You wouldn't displace a family from their home, so why would you displace us? Just like our school mascot, the Phoenix, we are fire. We will not be put out. We will fight fro our school. And no matter the outcome, we will rise from the ashes and be stronger than before.

Seeing two hundred and fifty signatures for our school is overwhelming. This building saved my life and I can see now that so many of you truly understand why we need to keep this space for those who need it most.

I have been reading every single comment left on this petition and the stories about how Longview changed your lives are absolutely heartbreaking to revisit. We are currently working on a formal presentation to show the board exactly why this building is the only place we can truly thrive.

The students served at Longview are much different those served at McClain. I think it is a mistake to have the Longview program out of McClain. It could disrupt the McClain programming. Ron Glandt Former Principal of McClain HS.
Attending LongView saved me and forever changed who I am. Throwing it into the exact environment the students are trying to avoid would change this amazing haven for so many young people with such great potential! Don't take that away!
This school saved my life. I jumped schools for a long time and met the wrong crowd. I've become a better person, going a better direction in life and I've met life long friends proud to be a Long View graduate! Save Long View
I have no idea what would have happened to my granddaughters if there were not Longview. So before closing think about a lot more things than just what you see in front of you. There is a whole lot more at stake here than what you see.
We need more schools like Longview. Please don't take this place away! I've been graduated for over a year now and I still go back just to visit once every month or so. This place is a second home, not just for me but for many people.
Without Longview high school I went to finish High School I went from parochial school to public school to being able to finally spread my wings and get a valuable education at Longview. Not to mention meeting my husband at longview. We have been together 15 years this month. Thank you Hanna, Pete, Dan and the entire longview community!
I would not have graduated if it were not for Long View high school. For me, Long View was it. There were no other options. My family was in the throes of a major financial struggle when I was in high school, and were about to lose the house, so online schooling was too expensive. We looked into other schools, too. Dozens of them. No other school could have provided me with the one-on-one, individualized schooling that I needed in order to succeed. And Long View didn't just help me graduate high school. When I started at Long View, I was so shy that I didn't even know how to ask for help when I needed it. The teachers and sense of community at Long View helped me learn valuable life skills that I still carry with me today. The environment set me up for a lifetime of success that no other school could have possibly achieved. If the Long View buildings are taken down, with the students moved to McLain, it is clear to me that this will not improve education for the students of Long View. It's hard to solidify a sense of community in a school as large as McLain, and even if the students will still share 4 classrooms together, we will be forced to socialize and spend our free time with the whole of the McLain student population. That doesn't happen while we have our own, separate building. The sense of community that Long View provides is not just important to our schooling. It is important to ensuring that we feel a sense of community with the world around us. We learn to take pride in our neighborhoods, we learn to care for the people around us, even strangers, on a deeply personal level, and these are ideals that we carry with us throughout the rest of our lives. This helps us to become more active members of society and enables us to feel empowered to change the injustices in our world that need changing. I don't know any other school, anywhere, that can boast that.

There is much to be said for alternative schools in spaces separate and outside of public highschools. Many public schools do not serve the same student population as this alternative school, which often serve as a catchsafe for students who feel unsafe in the public school setting. Please consider not relocating.
