Without Longview high school I went to finish High School I went from parochial school to public school to being able to finally spread my wings and get a valuable education at Longview. Not to mention meeting my husband at longview. We have been together 15 years this month. Thank you Hanna, Pete, Dan and the entire longview community!

I would not have graduated if it were not for Long View high school. For me, Long View was it. There were no other options. My family was in the throes of a major financial struggle when I was in high school, and were about to lose the house, so online schooling was too expensive. We looked into other schools, too. Dozens of them. No other school could have provided me with the one-on-one, individualized schooling that I needed in order to succeed.
And Long View didn't just help me graduate high school. When I started at Long View, I was so shy that I didn't even know how to ask for help when I needed it. The teachers and sense of community at Long View helped me learn valuable life skills that I still carry with me today. The environment set me up for a lifetime of success that no other school could have possibly achieved.
If the Long View buildings are taken down, with the students moved to McLain, it is clear to me that this will not improve education for the students of Long View. It's hard to solidify a sense of community in a school as large as McLain, and even if the students will still share 4 classrooms together, we will be forced to socialize and spend our free time with the whole of the McLain student population. That doesn't happen while we have our own, separate building.
The sense of community that Long View provides is not just important to our schooling. It is important to ensuring that we feel a sense of community with the world around us. We learn to take pride in our neighborhoods, we learn to care for the people around us, even strangers, on a deeply personal level, and these are ideals that we carry with us throughout the rest of our lives. This helps us to become more active members of society and enables us to feel empowered to change the injustices in our world that need changing. I don't know any other school, anywhere, that can boast that.

As a secondary educator who works with the kinds of kids this type of school supports and sometimes saves I want to be on record saying that we need alternative educational spaces. We need them to be funded. We need them to be safe. And we need their students, teachers, and staff to spend their time teaching and learning and not trying to keep the doors open. Jefferson County should be ashamed.

We can't afford to repress and eliminate small alternative quality schools as Longview.

There is much to be said for alternative schools in spaces separate and outside of public highschools. Many public schools do not serve the same student population as this alternative school, which often serve as a catchsafe for students who feel unsafe in the public school setting. Please consider not relocating.

Please don't move LongView!!! The whole success of the school is thanks to the unique, small, secluded environment it provides. It gave me an opportunity to graduate, I went from a 2.0 gpa to a 4.0gpa thanks to the amazing teaching staff and type of school. I thank LongView everyday for the man it helped me become! Please don't move LongView!

The value of programs like this cannot be quantified in dollars and cents. This about people and community and this is a valuable resource to ours.

LongView changed my life. I NEVER would've gone if it had been included with McClain. LongView has troubled students who want to change their future, where as McClain is full of kids forced to go to school and aren't held accountable. LongView gives kids the freedom to change their future by making you have to be there or face suspension, choosing exciting classes that teach not only curriculum but also life lessons. Please keep LongView separate! Give kids the opportunity to do great things from this campus!!!

This school is the only reason I got my diploma. It truly is an amazing institution that gave me learning opportunities I wouldn't have had otherwise. It offers an alternative environment for kids who struggle at large high schools. Please consider all of the good it has done before closing its doors...

This school really made a difference in my nieces success in graduating, otherwise she wouldn't have in a regular public school.
