On February 1st, 2023, the Valley City Park Board voted 4-1, without any advanced discussion with the Valley City Tennis Association or tennis coaches, to convert the three City Park courts EXCLUSIVELY to six Pickleball courts. The City Park courts, with the blessing of the Valley City Tennis Association, have been dual purpose Tennis/Pickleball for at least 4 years. The VCTA fully supports Pickleball in Valley City but not at the cost of losing more tennis courts.
This petition it to save tennis in City Park and continue the shared tennis and pickleball facility. If you agree please sign and support our efforts to save the historic City Park tennis courts.

To remove functionality of an already adequate situation is ridiculous. The dual purpose perfectly meets the needs of all Valley City citizens. The City Park courts offer refuge to tennis players unable to play on the High School/Parks & Rec courts due to tournaments, practices, meets, etc...
City Park tennis courts have a long history that has served thousands of youth and adults over the years, and I feel they can still serve that purpose as well as pickleball. To make the decision without input from the VCTA and community at large was wrong.
As a former VCHS and VCSU tennis athlete with 50+ years in the sport, I am appalled to hear that the richly historic City Park tennis courts may be sacrificed to pickleball without adequate community input or public comment. I urge the board to take our voices into consideration.
As the pickleball coordinator for Eden Prairie Parks and Recreation I understand the demand and desire for more places to play pickleball. Taking away from the tennis community is not the answer. We have found plenty of solutions to this dilemma and I encourage the VCPB to do the same.
Please find a way to make this dual use! This city cannot afford to only cater to the older generations! We are losing the young people- the work force that keeps this city operating.

Getting rid of a highschool jv program that will greatly affect the 50 plus highschool/junior high not counting the countless community tennis players just to dedicate courts to a sport that shares the EXACT same surface as tennis just doesn’t make sense.
