Started by Harbour Club Members 2 years, 2 months ago

We, the undersigned members of Harbour Club Notting Hill, petition the club management to reconsider the proposed refurbishment plan that reduces the number of tennis courts from three to two.

  • A Longstanding Tradition: Many of us have been members for years and joined specifically for the tennis facilities. Tennis is a core part of the club's identity and community.
  • Limited Availability, Big Impact: Reducing the courts will significantly decrease already limited court availability. Booking times will become even more competitive, hindering our ability to play regularly.
  • Loss of Competitive Spirit: Eliminating a court will remove the club's ability to host inter-club league matches, a significant aspect of the tennis program and a source of pride for the club.
  • Member Exodus: This decision will negatively impact tennis players and potentially drive many members, like myself, to seek alternative clubs with better facilities.

We urge the club management to find alternative solutions within the refurbishment plan that preserve all three tennis courts. We value the club's commitment to improvement but believe this change would have a detrimental effect on the tennis community at Harbour Club.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

We joined Harbour Club recently specifically because of the tennis courts for our daughter to practice tennis. We don’t use other facilities. We would be very disappointed if one of the courts is taken away. We would have appreciated if this could have been mentioned when we joined the club, as it would certainly have had a bearing on our decision to join.

I strongly recommend keeping all 3 tennis courts. Three is already barely enough and moving to two will cause conflicts between demand for coaching, clinics, and those just looking for a game. Also indoor paddleball is going to create an awful noise.

I can guarantee there are more members who want to keep the tennis courts than want paddle courts. Paddle is a trend, tennis is a lifestyle.

Any reduction in the tennis facilities would be incredibly disturbing, given the difficulty in booking court time already. The club may think of this as a 1/3 reduction in available court time, but it is in reality much greater than that. For many hours, the courts are pre-booked for clinics, private lessons and other programs, leaving only minor availability (especially in non-work hours). Removing an entire court will have a disproportionate effect on availability of non-program bookings. I, for one, will cancel my membership immediately.

As the HC Nottinghill (volunteer) team manager for London Ladies League 3, I can assure you that the news regarding a potential reduction of 3 tennis courts to 2, has sent a tsunami of discontent through the ranks of membership at our Club. The lack of communication around refurbishment to its members, has left everyone (both men and women within the tennis community) questioning their relationship with the Club going forward. Most find it both appalling and direspectful that we have had to hear of this massive change via rumors. Raquet members expect that you will be reducing membership fees to reflect the ongoing loss of court time going forward.

The indoor tennis courts at Harbour Club Notting Hill hold a significant advantage in this area. However, if only two courts remain, it will no longer qualify as a proper tennis venue. We will lose the opportunity to participate in the London Tennis League ! Quite a few new members who are keen to join tennis membership now because of the activities of the tennis program has been running successfully. To remove one tennis court would be an absolutely terrible decision!

The only reason we have became members is so Bella, our daughter can access to private tennis lessons. We have struggled to find suitable times for Bella to join Tennis lessons during the week after school, so she is currently doing on Sundays morning. Moving forward we hope to find a time during the week that she can join a group or private lesson. We are keen in maintaining tennis courts and not reduce the capacity for delivering tennis courts, which is already limited.

We need all 3 tennis courts and the club needs an update. The bathrooms are in a terrible state.
