Save Belfast Maine Pickleball
We petition the Belfast City Council to allow pickleball to continue being played in City Park until new courts of equal or better quality are built.
Pickleball has become an important part of the social, athletic and economic life in Belfast. People of different ages and backgrounds use it to stay active, meet others, and enjoy the park in a simple, welcoming way. City Park is already a place where people come to walk, talk, and spend time outdoors, and pickleball has added to that without taking away from the public value of the space.
There are currently over 300 active players and over 800 members of the Friends of Belfast Maine Pickleball Facebook group. If play is stopped before proper replacement courts are ready, that community will lose a space that has been in use for over 10 years and serves clear need. That would leave players with nowhere suitable to go in the meantime and would break up a growing activity that brings people together.
We ask the Council to keep pickleball in City Park until new suitable courts are built and ready to use. This is a fair and practical step that respects the people who play, the people who support them, and the need to make sure community sport is not cut off before an alternative exists.
Please keep pickleball in City Park until proper replacement courts are in place.

Pickleball allowed me to meet many people in a new community AND greatly improved my health—strength and flexibility This is by far the busiest, most used, small community park I have ever encountered!
I’ve been playing pickleball for just over 2 years now. Belfast was one of the first places I ever played when I started. The community of people there kept me wanting to play the game and have led me to be the character I am today, on and off the court. I might not have a pickleball journey if not for Belfast pickleball.
Pickleball is a fun stay that helps people of all ages stay in good physical condition. Belfast Pickleball brings my wife and I to Belfast to do all of our shopping.
As I age I’ve found pickleball in Belfast a great way to stay fit. Mentally and physically. It’s a great community.
I have loved being able to play and participate in tournaments in Belfast! I have loved the community and the people and the beautiful park!
A place to meet with and support community menbers
As an aging former racquetball and tennis player, pickleball allows me to engage in a court sport that gives me exercise, and maybe more importantly, lets me have the kind of fun that only a court sport can!
