Santaluz is a thriving community because of the family-friendly environment that we have created. Our children can grow and play in a safe, gated community with private roads. One of the advantages of being a private community with private roads is that we can allow golf carts, skateboards, scooters (both motorized and unmotorized), go karts, 4 wheelers, and similar toys to be responsibly used by our children on sidewalks and roads.

Our kids, and many of yours, ride these in our cul de sac and on the sidewalks, and we do not think we should be forced to stop simply because a couple outspoken residents have an issue with it. Many families have golf carts that they use to drive up the Village Green from the west side of Santaluz and should continue to be allowed to do so.

We ask you to support this petition to the board to continue to allow these vehicles on our private roads so that our family-friendly environment can continue to thrive.

If you are available, please attend the Board Meeting at 9am on Friday, Jan 27 to express your support as well. The meeting is held at the Santaluz Community Conference Room located at 14885 Camino Del Sur.

Updates

January 27, 2017

I have been hearing from so many of you about how vital these carts are for getting the kids around and honestly the messages about the Village Green trips really hit home for me. I am currently putting together a folder of all these stories because the board needs to understand that this is about our daily lives and not just some rulebook technicality. It is wild how much time I spend thinking about golf cart tires and sidewalk pathways these days but it feels like the right thing to do for the neighborhood.

January 27, 2017

I really thought this might just be a niche gripe but seeing things pick up speed like this makes me think maybe we have a real chance of keeping the roads open for the kids. It feels wild to see so many neighbors agreeing that the golf carts and scooters are just part of what makes living here what it is. I honestly keep checking the screen because I never expected this much backing so soon.

To anyone against kids (and adults like me) riding skateboards, scooters, go karts and the like within the gates of Santaluz, just remember the joy you experienced as a child participating in these kinds of activities. If this doesn't spark some wonderful memories of freedom and adventure, and at least somewhat of a change of heart, might I suggest you reconsider living in a family community and take a look at the beautiful new 55+ community down the road. Parents need to consistently teach their kids to be safe, but inhibiting a big part of our kids' development is not acceptable.

Santa lose is our community within Gates. Our children are in their mid teens. They are very responsible and enjoy riding bikes, skateboards, scooters. It's a large community and it is their way of getting from one neighborhood to the other. Taking That away from them we think is unnecessary and cruel. It's not all about the older neighbors in his neighborhood.

My children 10 & 12 are avid bike riders in the neighborhood. I have seen many accidents with bikes and cars over the years, even in residential neighborhoods, and consequently have taught my kids to ride on the trails and sidewalks. They always pull over to the pedestrians and respectfully share the path. Several times they have been confronted by walkers who claim that bikers are not allowed on the paths. Often these people have uncontrollable dogs who are on very long leashes and risk getting entangled in the bike .... dangerous for the dogs and rider! I am not going to put my kids on the road and risk them being hit by a car. We need to all share the paths and trails and be respectful of each other and safety. Annalise

Those freedoms we enjoy inside the gates are one of the reason Santaluz is so great. Besides, I'm one of those big kids who likes to scooter around with my kids.

Absolutely children should safely be allowed to ride their bikes, scooters and any other outdoor activities on the street with proper supervision. We are a family neighborhood with many kids and live in a gated community where our children can play safely in front of their homes, parks and around the neighborhood. A ban on this would, in my opinion not want families to live in our community.

This is a family community and if children are simply playing and following the rules of the road, they should be allowed to play. We should not be forcing children to stop being kids. Kids like to be outside and playing with their outdoor toys. This type of rule is a punishment. If a couple of kids are destroying property due to the use of this equipment then those individuals should be addressed and parents should be informed. But my kids follow the rules of the road and I am with them on their bikes and scooters and I will continue to let them ride their bikes and scooters. This type of rule is simply too domineering.

Apparently not a joke? My kids enjoy riding their bikes more than anything. And they do so safely without bothering anybody.
