The Go Green in Island View Committee would like to gain the support of the Marblehead City Council to allow the use of golf carts on Harsh Road for the exclusive purpose of Island View residents and visitors traveling in and out of Lakeside.
Harsh Road is the only public roadway in Island View and the only direct access into Lakeside from Island View. Currently, cyclists and pedestrians travel down the middle of this quiet roadway to and from Lakeside, but golf carts are prohibited. Island View residents and visitors have no other way to directly get from their private property into Lakeside's private property without traveling on the very short stretch of Harsh Road.
Golf carts, on low speed, light traffic roadways, are a safe form of transportation. In addition, they are an environmentally friendly and low-stress way to travel. Golf carts are wonderful for older people because they are easy to maneuver, offer good visibility, and provide access to areas that are otherwise inconvenient to get to by car. Golf carts help to lessen air polution, noise polution, and street congestion.
If you support the Go Green in Island View Committee's proposal of allowing golf carts to travel on Harsh Road, please sign the petition below. The petition will be presented to the Marblehead City Council at one of their meetings in the near future.
I honestly did not think so many of you would care about Harsh Road but here we are and the momentum honestly feels a bit surreal right now. It is just funny to think about all those times I sat on my porch watching traffic and wondering if anyone else wanted a quieter way to get to Lakeside because clearly you all do.

Get it done. Golf carts are common sense for a neighborhood like this.

It makes zero sense to ban them. We are talking about such a small distance!

Finally someone is pushing for this. harsh road is so quiet anyway it would be way safer than people trying to walk along the side.

My knees aren't what they used to be and walking that stretch to get to Lakeside is getting harder every summer. Please let us use the carts.
