To the City of Cambridge:

We, the undersigned residents of Cambridge, Massachusetts, believe the city should initiate a Pilot Program for Off-Leash Hours at Sacramento Field. This request rests on a deeply felt and long-expressed community need. At a recent well-advertised and well-attended 90-minute community meeting, all but two residents present supported this request. This request also rests on a record of success: Off-Leash Hours programs at parks across the city have cultivated park stewardship, improved the condition of the parks, strengthened neighborhoods and neighborhood spirit, encouraged responsible use of the parks by dog owners, and increased the rate of dog licensing. Given the great success of these programs elsewhere in the city and the heartfelt community support for this proposal, we ask that the city institute a Pilot Program in Sacramento Field. Thank you very much for considering our petition.

The level of engagement surrounding this proposal confirms that our community values the potential for a shared space at Sacramento Field. This momentum illustrates a clear consensus among our neighbors regarding the benefits of a pilot program. We move forward with renewed confidence in the strength of our collective request.

I can't tell you the number of little kids that get so excited seeing friendly pups running around and having a good time! Having an off-leash dog park encourages residents to be part of a community and chat with one another and have a good time. This would be a lovely and well appreciated addition to the neighborhood.

I am not a dog owner and I do occasionally use the field for activities. I am in favor of having off leash dog hours at the field and agree a program should be piloted.

As a daily user of the off-leash shared park at Gore Street in East Cambridge, I have heard for years of the need for residents around the Sacramento Park area to have the same off-leash access. I urge the city to take this request seriously. Shared, off-leash dog spaces do increase community stewardship and create lasting care amongst neighbors.

We have two small children, a dog, and live one block from the park - our family supports the off-leash dog park hours. We would welcome a place, within walking distance, to let our friendly golden retriever run off-leash - otherwise we have to get in our car and drive to a dog-friendly park, thus increasing our carbon footprint.

I whole -heartedly support off leash hours in the morning - to provide the neighborhood with a place to exercise dogs in a safe, responsible manner -and a place to meet friends old & new! It has worked well at Raymond Playground- our neighborhood would be grateful for a closer spot like sacramanto Field.

Having an enclosed place near my home where my dog can run and play is a huge boon for my neighborhood experience. I also like that it means I don't have to drive to Danehy, burning fossil fuels in the process. And I appreciate the potential for neighborly connections.

It is about time we got this going.... we love this park--why is it sitting unused?
