We are a group of Cambridge residents who would like to work with the city and with our neighbors to establish limited off-leash hours in the open space on the corner of Sidney and Pacific streets.
We recognize that this shared public space is a limited resource, and is used both formally and informally for a variety of purposes. That said, the space is under-utilized during certain hours and at certain times of the year.
We would like to work with the city to identify specific times of day during which the space is under-utilized, and to ask that the city allow dogs to remain off-leash in the space during those times. (Presently, dogs are permitted in the Pacific Street open space on-leash at all times; however, this does not serve the same purpose as an off-leash space.) We suggest that off-leash hours be designated in the morning, and in the late afternoons on days when no athletic events are occurring. We are flexible as to the specific hours, however, and hope to work with the city council and our neighbors to establish times that work for everyone.
The momentum generated by this proposal demonstrates a clear desire for improved access to our neighborhood open spaces. This collective interest will be instrumental as we begin our formal discussions with the city council regarding the use of Pacific Street.

FINALLY. Makes no sense that this big space just sits empty while we have to walk halfway across town just to get some exercise for the dogs.

Such a great idea. We really need more spots in Cambridge like this.

Living right around the corner and there is nowhere near here to let the pup run. This would be such a huge help for the neighborhood.

The park is barely used half the time anyway. Why not let us use it for our dogs too?

Agree with this 100%. Just keep it clean and it should be fine. Everyone wins.

Please make this happen. My dog needs to burn off energy and it would be great to meet some other neighbors while we are at it.
