We, the citizens of South West Center City, Newbold, and Point Breeze, and the members of the South of South Dog Owners Group, respectfully petition the City of Philadelphia to designate a portion of Chew Park (located at 1800 Washington Ave.) as an off-leash dog park, to be funded and maintained in whole or in part by the South of South Dog Owners Group (an incorporated Pennsylvania non-profit organization).
As compared to other parts of the city, dog-friendly green space is sorely lacking in our neighborhood because the majority of publically accessible green space has been designated “dog free.” Adding a designated dog-friendly space in Chew Park will cure this problem and:
· promote economic development in the area, by encouraging dog owners to spend more leisure time and money in the neighborhood;
· improve public safety, by encouraging more foot traffic in and around Chew Park, especially in the evenings and on weekends; and
· promote responsible dog-ownership, by providing a legal and neighbor-maintained place for local dog owners to take their pets for exercise and socialization.

Please email your district council member today to confirm that our neighborhood needs this space for exercise and safety. The momentum behind this proposal has grown beyond what I originally imagined. Please post this link to your neighborhood Facebook groups today to keep the pressure on the city. Send a quick email to your council representative demanding they prioritize the dog park at Chew Park.

would love to help out with cleanup days. this area is desperate for a real dog run
Washington Ave needs some love. this would make the park feel way safer at night too
my dog needs a place to run around without me having to drive 20 mins away. this park is right down the block
PLEASE make this happen!!! so tired of getting yelled at for taking my pup to the park. we need a legal spot
finally. been waiting for something like this since i moved to point breeze. way too many dogs here with nowhere to go
This would be the best for sure a dog heavy community!

there are so many dogs in this concentrated area, but the nearest dog park is 0.7miles away! we could definitely use one closeby
