They actually did it and increased the funding for the NIH so I guess sometimes the system really works when we keep pestering them enough. It is honestly wild that 4102 people cared enough to click a button for this (I know I was obsessively checking the count at 3am) …

We, the undersigned believe that medical research is leading the way towards important discoveries that improve people's health and save lives.  The promise of medical research has never been greater for Americans suffering from serious illnesses like cancer, autism, diabetes, Alzheimer's and heart disease.

To realize this hope fully, we must increase federal support for medical research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the next budget year.  The NIH supports researchers in every state.  Medical research is not only the beginning of hope for those suffering from serious illnesses but also one of the best investments our nation can make in our future.

We urge Congress and the Administration to make increased, sustained support for NIH one of our country’s highest priorities. It will pay a lifetime of dividends in better health and quality of life for all Americans.

I was reading through some of the personal stories people left in the comments earlier and it just completely floored me because this is so much more than just a budget line item for so many of us. I have been putting in hours drafting emails to the offices of people who should be listening to us and honestly the lack of a real response is pretty frustrating but we just have to keep at it.

I just saw the tracker tick over to one hundred signatures and I am honestly floored that this many people care about NIH funding as much as I do. It feels like a small number compared to what we need but it is a start and I am sitting here so grateful that you all took the time to click that button because this really matters for the future of research.

I was just looking at the count and saw we are almost at a thousand which is honestly wild because I barely slept last night thinking about all these families waiting for progress. If everyone who sees this could ping one person in their life to get us over this hump it would be such a huge deal for the folks in Congress who need to see we mean business.
