Petition to Oppose Re-Zoning Zoning Board Hearing to be held on June 10, 2010, at 1 p.m. at courthouse in downtown Birmingham, Room 270. "We, the citizens of Rock Mtn. Lakes, Pineview Beach, and Lowetown communities, petition the Jefferson Co. Alabama, Land Development/Zoning Board, and County Commissioners to deny approval of a request made by applicant, Michael Odom, Case #: Z-10-09, to re-zone an area of 150 acres at 6961 Lowetown Rd., Mc Calla, AL 35111, from A-1 to C-2 for the intended purpose of constructing a Motor Cross Track, RV Camping sites, Lodge, Restaurant, and a Sales/Service/Rental Shop. The construction of just the Motor Cross Track alone, would cause our communities tremendous, additional noise pollution, on top of what we already have to deal with, with I-59/20 being so close to us. It would also cause severely increased traffic on roads that aren't designed to accommodate the amount of increase. And, our property values would also be adversely affected, should this zoning be approved, and the proposed construction take place. We understand and appreciate the need for this type of outdoor amusement, however we feel there are other more appropriate locations for this type of amusement, instead of right in the middle of our residential areas. Therefore, we ask that this application for re-zoning be denied. Thank you!"

The concerns shared in the comments regarding traffic and noise levels confirm that this development is incompatible with our local infrastructure. I am currently organizing the documentation for the upcoming board meeting to ensure these valid points reach the commissioners.

This is ridiculous. We moved out here for peace and quiet not to hear dirt bikes all day long. Keep the noise away from our homes.

NO WAY. Who in their right mind thinks a motocross track belongs right next to a residential area? Keep it out of our backyards.

My kids play in the yard and the traffic is already way too fast. Please listen to us and keep this commercial stuff out of our neighborhood.

property values are gonna tank if they put a loud restaurant and shop right there. we worked hard for our homes and deserve better than this.

Lowetown road is already a death trap at 5pm. adding a race track and tourists in RVs is gonna get someone killed. bad idea.
