We, the undersigned, support the campaign to revive the Victoria Theatre in Newcastle, NSW's oldest heritage theatre. A restored Victoria Theatre will bring people back to the city centre, it will grow new jobs and boost the Hunter’s collective live performance and tourism infrastructure. It will provide a major cultural asset at a fraction of the cost to build new, in a rapidly developing residential area.

Mid-sized at 950 capacity, the Victoria Theatre will work in tandem with the larger Civic Theatre’s 1,520 seats. It will fill a missing yet essential step that our emerging artists need and deserve. It will dramatically expand audience experiences. The Victoria Theatre will form a cornerstone to the Hunter’s first dedicated entertainment precinct.

This major capital project will, with construction and just three years of operation, generate $50,000,000 in direct and indirect economic flow on to the surrounding area, and create at least 40 new jobs each year. (Victoria Theatre – Economic Impact, Hawkridge 2020)

With the Development Application approved, the Victoria Theatre is a shovel-ready project with a wealth of community support. We fully support the plea to government to contribute significantly to the one-off capital investment required to make the Victoria Theatre revival a reality.

We urge you to bring the Victoria Theatre back to life: your investment will have a huge multiplier effect on the community, today and for many years to come.

PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NOT FUNDRAISING VIA THIS PETITION. ANY REQUESTS TO DONATE ARE FOR THE I-PETITION PLATFORM AND CAN BE REFUSED. THE FUNDS ARE NOT FOR THE VICTORIA THEATRE.

I lived in Newcastle East for 3 years and always walked by this building wishing it would be restored. It's in a great location and would be a much better venue for mid size acts! (I don't bother going to venues like the Cambridge as I can never see a thing with the standing room only)

It would be a terrible shame to see such a beautifully designed architectural masterpiece torn down to have a modern lifeless concrete bunker built in its place. We need to restore this amazing heritage building and bring it back to life and it will then create more jobs and grow our CBD economically.

Historic Victoria Theatre Newcastle was one of the key landmarks in the N.S.W. Department of Planning's Newcastle Urban Renewal Strategy 2012 Repot. The Victoria Theatre's revitalisation was compared to the 19th century Her Majesty's Theatre at Ballarat, recently had an award winning restoration.

This lies just around the corner from the former Tower Cinemas, also shut down. Newcastle is going to need these two to be operational as it redevelops the cultural feel of the east end, with the business occurring at the west end.

As an actor how working in commercial theatre who also grew up in Newcastle, this theatre could represent so much to the community. It’s an invaluable part of of arts heritage that needs to be preserved.

Currently work in the entertainment industry in Newcastle. To have this venue back up and running in our city would help an industry that has always struggled, in a "working class" city
