We, the undersigned residents, abutters and businesses of Stoughton, Massachusetts, write to express our strong support for the restoration and revitalization of the historic State Theatre located in the heart of our town.

This cherished landmark has stood for generations as a cultural and architectural treasure. Restoring the State Theatre is not only a matter of preserving our past, but also an opportunity to shape our future. A fully restored theatre will:

• Serve as a vibrant community gathering place for arts, entertainment, and education.

• Stimulate economic growth by attracting visitors, supporting local businesses, and creating jobs.

• Preserve the unique character and heritage of our downtown, enhancing property values and community pride.

• Provide a space for families, neighbors, and future generations to experience the arts close to home.

We believe that the restoration of the State Theatre represents an investment in our community’s cultural and economic vitality. We wholeheartedly support efforts to secure the funding and partnerships necessary to bring this historic venue back to life.

By signing below, we affirm our commitment to preserving this landmark and urge all decision- makers—public and private—to make the restoration of the State Theatre a priority for the Town of Stoughton.

There are so many activities, and performances that can be held at a theater. The only venues which are quite a distance away are the South Shore Music Circus in Marshfield (non profit but still must pay taxes ) seating 2300, The Hanover theatre in Worcester, seating 2300 (revenue 2024 12.3 million, non profit) The Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis (non-profit) seating 2300, not year round), Providence center for the performing arts (revenue 10 - 100million annual) seating 3100. Even though revenue goes back into a non profit there are still concessions, creation of jobs, and it stimulates economic growth by attracting visitors thereby supporting local businesses.

Used to go there all the time; nice quaint little theater. I hope someone managed to save the huge, kitschy "ten commandments' poster that adorned one of the walls.

Watched many many movies in that theater going up. So many happy childhood memories.

I've followed several old theatres in RI be renovated and become gathering places for good as well as the arts. Please let this be another gem.

The arts bring life and connection. And Stoughton needs to bring the arts to our town and revitalize the center.

It’s time to make Stoughton’s downtown the vibrant showpiece it was meant to be—a place that attracts local, independent businesses and brings the community together. Restoring the historic State Theatre is a key step toward that vision. Sign the petition today and show your support for a stronger, more thriving downtown.
