Hi Friends,
Central Alberta Theatre's financial challenges raise the spectre of the company's
potential closure after 42 successful seasons. This possibility would not only be
Red Deer's loss; it would be Alberta's loss! Simply stated, the city's arts &
culture scene can't afford that loss. Central Alberta Theatre, lovingly known as
CAT, was founded in 1970; it's the second oldest community amateur theatre
society in Canada and the only one remaining in Red Deer.
We're working hard to find a solution, join us and lend your voice to our efforts to
get this central Albertan institution back to sustainability. It starts by sending your
voice to those with the power to help! By signing this petition, you are declaring
that the CAT' s demise would not be acceptable; that arts and culture in Red Deer
and Alberta must not be expendable and that every measure should be taken to
save the institution.
Collected signatures will be sent to Mayor Morris Flewelling and copies will be
sent to the Heritage Minister and the Canada Council.
Once you have signed the petition, please get your friends to sign and post the link
on your Facebook and Twitter feeds. It is extremely important to keep spreading
the word. Feel free to write to the Mayor or the Minister yourself either using the
attached form letter of in your own words.

im still reading through all the stories people are posting about what this theater means to them. its clear we cant let forty years of history just disappear because of money issues. im working on getting these signatures in front of the right people at city hall soon.

the momentum behind this is honestly incredible and i am blown away by the support for cat. it feels like people are finally realizing what we stand to lose if we dont save our stage.

My kids grew up watching shows here. It would be a total shame for the next generation to miss out on local theatre.
Red Deer wont be the same without CAT. so many of my best memories are from nights at the theatre. we have to keep this alive!
so many talented people in this city and they need a stage. dont close it down!!!!
CAT has been a huge part of our community for as long as I can remember. Stop cutting funding for the arts!
Ridiculous that they are even considering letting this happen. 42 years of history down the drain? Keep it open.

Fix this. We need our arts scene.
