The city has officially decided to keep our dispatch services local. I honestly never thought this would be possible when I started, but this outcome belongs entirely to you. We should keep an eye on things to ensure this stays the permanent standard for our town.

Final supporters
We, the citizens of Hoopeston, petition the city to
reinstate dispatching duties to our local dispatch center at the
Hoopeston Police Department and do not support cutting of staff as a
cost saving measure.
Dispatching duties done from within our town by personnel familiar withour citizens, local area and responders provides the fastest, safest, most reliable dispatch of our agencies during times of need. As in the past, we should have dedicated dispatchers who are ONLY responsible for OUR agencies, personnel and citizens. This provides a superior quality of service and safety which can't be achieved by a county-wide center responsible for 44 other agencies in the county.
Further, cutting staff as a cost saving measure unacceptably diminishes public safety, quality of service and the overall well-being of the citizens of Hoopeston.

Seeing this much momentum is completely overwhelming and I am moved by how many of you value our local dispatchers as much as I do. This is your energy and your commitment to Hoopeston that is driving the conversation forward. I feel lucky to be a part of such a dedicated group of neighbors.

I am a dispatcher in Florida and have dear friends that work for this agency. I understand and know how important it is for this agency to have their own dispatch who knows about their town and agency.
I experienced a delay while calling 911 for my mom. The response time was about 10 minutes. We live less than 2 minutes from the ambulance barn. I was also put on hold for whatever reason and then told to call back if my mom's condition changed before the ambulance arrived.
We need our dispatch back it's so much easier to call out local pd to tell them what is going on and then immediately dispatch out verses calling another number then they sent it to someone else then our local pd gets the information by that time it could be to late seconds matter!
As a property owner and former City Attorney for the City of Hoopeston, I believe nothing can compare to having local dispatch in terms of response time and quality of dispatch services.
When you call the Hoopeston dispatch, they know where you are.. respond faster.. you don't have to explain for 10 minutes the location because they are already familiar!
This is something that should NEVER be taken from a community in a nation such as ours!

My 73 year old father fell and it took over 15 mins for ambulance to come. City workers sweeping leaves helped get him up bc the ambulance had not come!
