Consolidation Department of Public Safety/Vermont State Police Public Safety Answering Points from 4(Williston, Derby, Rutland and Rockingham) to 2(Williston and Rockingham) would have the following specific impacts:
* 29 Full time employees losing their jobs
* High degree of loss of knowledge of local area and supported agencies
* 4 sites provide geographic backup and continuity of operation in case of large scale disasters
* Potential extra burden and slower response times of Emergency Services Personnel to include Fire/EMS
* Limited functionality of the trooper's mobile data terminals due to Vermont's terrain.
Current Capabilities:
* Provide Police, Fire and EMS for over 100 agencies in the state. In 2014 we collectively processed over 100,000 cases
* High degree of knowledge of local area and supported agencies
* Answer 77% of State 911 calls. In 2014 we answered 161,628 of the 215,504 911 calls made

The silence from the department remains heavy and they continue to ignore the clear risks to our emergency response network. I am currently spending my time drafting formal inquiries to state officials because the people who hold the power to stop these cuts must be held accountable.

This seems to be a very unnecesary measure to save money for the state. It is at the expense of having this important social service carried our by caring professionals who have taken the time to build vibrant relationships with those in the community who are in dire need.
Not good! How can someone answering from 75 miles away have any clue about what's available locally. Please do not do this; public safety will suffer not to mention the loss if jobs.
Not a good idea to close the 911 call center. if disaster strikes an area the other areas can pick up the slack. There needs to be a lot or planning and scenarios run before something like this could even be contemplated. I do not like this idea at all. I realize you are trying to make cuts but this is not the place. Our safety is worth more than that.
as being a former EMT i know the importance of having our local dispatch that knows us the location and the roads we need to respond to
I believe they need to keep both derby and rutland. there must be other ways to cut . to many people in the area need 911 with people who know the area. people in williston have no idea where places are
You cannot put a price on local knowledge when responding to an emergency. To do otherwise puts the public at risk.

You really need people familiar with the area directing troopers, FDs and EMS. There are too many "dead spots" in radio coverage to have just two dispatch centers!
