The need to improve the safety of Little Common Road for pedestrians and motorists is more critical than ever, after two serious traffic accidents at the same spot in just one year.
The speed limit of 40mph on a dangerous blind bend near to the Denbigh Pub has resulted in numerous serious incidents over the past few years including a telegraph pole being knocked over, a milk float turning over, a car hitting a wall, a pedestrian being hit and a vehicle being turned over. These are just a few of the incidents all relating to the same short stretch of road.
Increased traffic on Little Common Road from large articulated lorries and resulting from the planned housing developments will make the road even more dangerous.
To address this we demand a reduction in the speed limit and appropriate traffic calming measures to ensure that the speed limit is enforced.
The road is particularly dangerous for pedestrians, as there are inadequate crossing facilities. People on foot have little option but to run across a three-lane section of road on a blind bend. This is particularly hazardous for elderly residents, parents with young children and school pupils. The dangerous stretch of road houses two bus stops, pathways leading onto the road and is of course home to Broad Oak Park.
Lives are at risk, we demand that in addition to a reduction in the speed limit pedestrians are given a safe crossing point.

The momentum is undeniable now. Seeing this many people demand safety for Little Common Road proves we can force a change.

We live directly opposite the Denbigh and actually drive there for a drink or meal because we are too frightened to cross the 259. We desperately need a pedestrian crossing.
Our son and his wife and children live on Little Common Road. Whenever we visit our grandchildren we feel the only way to leave to house, safely, with them, is by car! - We have to drive to a place where it is safe to park and get out and walk! Crazy. Please look into this issue asap.
It needs to have the speed reduced and a crossing put in near the Denbigh as I have to walk my two boys to school at King Offa and I take our lives in my hands everytime I try to cross near the Denbigh, I live just behind it and there are no safer options! There seem to be very few people who stick to the 40mph speed limit anyway!
The speed isn't the only problem either. It's the volume of traffic and motorbikes weaving in and out of the lanes between cars. Seen cars stopping to allow people to cross only for a motorbike taking to opportunity to weave through the gap. Another threat to pedestrians.
Serious accident waiting to happen. Not enough pedestrian visibility for road width and vehicle speed. A nightmare for the less mobile. Not particularly safe for car drivers turning right in to broadoak lane either.

I lived at 18 Little Common Road for 10 years. The speed of the traffic, especially lorries, coming down the hill from the Denbigh bends is terrifying. Church Hill is as bad. Has been for years but nothing is ever done!
