Increasing numbers of vehicles; more collisions; inadequate pedestrian crossing facilities and a proposed new housing development off the Little Common Road? This is a no brainer !

Little Common road is a dangerous road, the pavement is not sufficiently wide enough for two people to pass one another safely. There is also a need for a crossing further to the east of St Marks Church, linking the area at top of Pinewood and Collington Rise to the Broadoak Park and the Recreation ground on the north side of the road. The crossing should be placed well back from the double bend where the Denbigh is situated.

I would like to comment as a reply to Fernanda Bennett.
Fernanda, your concerns regarding the overgrown vegetation have been put to Highways England who are arranging for it to be cut back.
Hopefully that will answer your concerns.

I lived at 18 Little Common Road for 10 years. The speed of the traffic, especially lorries, coming down the hill from the Denbigh bends is terrifying. Church Hill is as bad. Has been for years but nothing is ever done!

I live near Little Common traffic circle and frequently have to walk to Bexhill or Little Common. If I walk to Little Common, the pavement is so narrow that if someone else comes along, one of us has to stand still and pull their tummy in. The overgrown brambles frequently get stuck in my hair or scratch my ankles. My husband was nearly killed by a wide vehicle whose side mirror just went past his ear and he was not walking on the edge of the pavement. You really have to try and walk into the undergrowth or else the passing vehicles with various mirrors and protrusions can slap you. What if there were a person with a guide dog and someone coming the other way with a motorised scooter? Who would have to step into the traffic for the other to pass? And many times I have several parcels and manybe a mom comes with a pram. Then we have to do this ridiculous dance of backing into the bushes, getting stung by nettles, watching for a gap in the traffic so that one of us can put a limb into the road. What's wrong with y'all? Widen the pavement, cut back the undergrowth, put in traffic calming measures. If I try and cross the road to the church side, it takes several minutes and then I have to hotfoot it because everyone is zooming along. I had a fall and broke a sectional bone in my knee, it's so painful to walk. Yesterday I wanted to cross the road but know I'm not fast in my present condition. It was very difficult to find a big enough gap in the traffic flow to cross safely and slowly. And as for when I used to walk into Bexhill,.....there is one section with no pavement at all, most parts need rampant weeds controlled because you can only put one foot in front of another. When total strangers come the other way, we have to get quite cozy in order to pass each other. Then one part is so slippy when it's been raining that I have several times done some rather dramatic gymnastic manoeuvres there. I have had so many near-misses on my walk to Bexhill. We live directly opposite the Denbigh and actually drive there for a drink or meal because we are too frightened to cross the 259. We desperately need a pedestrian crossing.

This section of road is lethal, the speed of traffic on such a blind bend is incredibly dangerous. The speed limit needs to be reduced urgently. Highways Agency - please act NOW.

Our son and his wife and children live on Little Common Road. Whenever we visit our grandchildren we feel the only way to leave to house, safely, with them, is by car! - We have to drive to a place where it is safe to park and get out and walk! Crazy.
Please look into this issue asap.

It needs to have the speed reduced and a crossing put in near the Denbigh as I have to walk my two boys to school at King Offa and I take our lives in my hands everytime I try to cross near the Denbigh, I live just behind it and there are no safer options! There seem to be very few people who stick to the 40mph speed limit anyway!

I have crossed this road many times and it is a very scary and dangerous experience. A safe crossing is badly needed and the traffic slowed.
