Petition to open Electra Footpath on the River Lea & provide another stretch of walking access along this historic river
Opening up this small stretch of path to the general public will allow everyone to enjoy an uninterrupted walkway along the River Lea. The existing pathway is in excellent condition but closed from access by a gate.
The River Lea has public footpaths running uninterrupted from the Thames all the way to Luton with only a few exceptions. One of them is this short piece of land called the Electra Path. The path is blocked-off, isolating the very south of the river at Leamouth from its continuous sprawling towpaths from Cody Dock & everything north of A13.
Electra Path is fully lit at night & in superb condition, yet it’s shut off by a palisade fence installed by the land owners. Opening this path (and eventually the land immediately north of the A13 occupied for industrial use) would allow walkers & cyclists to experience the riverbeds & natural habitats of the Lea continuously from the Thames, through the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park & all the way up the Lea Valley Park & beyond.

The path is still blocked and the work is exhausting but we are getting closer to the thousand signature mark. Please help push us over that threshold now so they cannot ignore us any longer.

The gates remain locked and the silence from the landowners is growing heavy. I have been spending my evenings researching property titles to understand who exactly is responsible for this ongoing obstruction. This is far more draining than I anticipated when I started but I am not walking away from this fight.

The path remains locked behind that fence but we are nearing one hundred signatures to show them we are serious. I am exhausted from the constant silence from those in charge but I am not stopping now. Please help us reach this mark so we have more weight when I send this in.

It will make a big difference so people can enjoy this little corner of East London. I'm a runner and member of a run club based near the Greenway / Olympic Park and are always exploring new routes and I'm sure everyone will enjoy it.
At the moment, I have to leave the quiet, traffic-free towpath at Cody Dock to cycle through an industrial estate. Opening up the path would make a huge difference to walkers and cyclists along this stretch of the river.
Opening this small stretch of the river path would make a big difference both in extending the walk along beside the river without detouring on to the roads and also to enable the people who work in the area to walk to and from Canning Town Station along a pleasant path.
I first covered the campaign as an East London journalist to open up the Leaside walk back in 2013, when featuring an article about Cody Dock. This proposal would open up the Lower Lea Valley and increase regeneration to the area; it deserves media and public support.
I've discovered Cody Dock only few weeks ago despite having lived in Canning Town over two years. It was a surprise to me such a lovely stretch of pathway, well lit and well maintained is closed for the public. Breaking the continuous walk across the river. It doesn't make sense.
A walk along the river is so good for your mental wellbeing, especially in a world dominated by social media. Opening up this footpath would be wonderful for the local residents, and provide a space away from the noise and pollution of social media xx
Walked from Tottenham to the Thames only to be stopped by this footpath being unnecessarily closed. It was very disappointing.

As a resident of Canning Town, it's extremely disappointing that we have to go through an industrial estate (which frankly is a little scary to walk through) to enjoy a pleasant walk along the river because a small stretch of pathway is closed.
