On 20 April 2025, a 9-year-old child (identity withheld) was raped and abused in around Mpuluzi (Mayflower) by an accused by the name of Andries Zwane (aged between 65 – 68) who also attempted to rape another 13-year-old girl within the area, the accused is currently in Police custody awaiting his return day in court, he returns to Court on the 14th Of May 2025 for bail application.
We as Potter’s House for Women, standing side-by-side with the Multi-Party Women’s Caucus, Mpuluzi Parliamentary Constituency Office (PCO), as well as other organizations all of which are members within the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, stand with the victims and their families in crying out for justice to be served.
We therefore are making a call that the accused (Andries Zwane) should not receive bail until the case is concluded. We urge you as members of our community to stand with us and sign this petition which we plan to hand to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), that Andries Zwane should be denied bail.
