Weymouth's zoning laws are old, outdated an do not protect Weymouth from overdevelopment. Why is it easier easy for an out-of-town developer to build 10 tiny one bedroom apartments on a piece of land suitable for a single family house but impossible for someone to build a piece of commercial real estate. Let's change this and take Weymouth back.
By signing this petition you are asking the Mayor and the Weymouth Town Council to immediately adopt a moratorium on all new construction in Weymouth (with the exception of Southfield) and create a committee to do a comprehensive review of all of the town’s zoning laws.

I am hearing from residents across town who are tired of seeing our neighborhoods transformed by developers while our local businesses struggle to find space. Email the Mayor today to demand an immediate moratorium so we can freeze these projects and fix our broken zoning laws.

No more apartments! Out of town landlords don't care who lives in their units but we do!!
It's about time we stop building and increasing water usage on an already overburdened system. Nice work Wayne Mathews.
Our town's zoning laws definitely need revising. Enough of the condos and especially tiny apartments which don't encourage long-term residency.
We need to find ways to increase property, tax values and schools and the current zoning laws are hurting all three things.
We need wholesale changes in the zoning of our Town and not only as it relates to apartments but to heavy industrial manufacturing, we don't need this type of industry invading our neighboorhoods. That said, the first step is a clear and concise vision of Weymouth –covering Eco-Development, Re-development, Housing, Tourism, Community Engagement, Schools and Parks & Rec. This pause, as long as a long term strategy is being developed, make senses and is in the best interest of our Town. We need to “shut it down” ( excluding Southfield) until the new leadership leads, something we have lacked for almost a decade.

Please, for the sake of the community, focus on commercial development; not these quick short term fixes to revenue problems. Multi-unit buildings have attracted poor quality residents, are draining our social programs, and are shifting focus from the need for commercial development. It's so sad, a town our size doesn't have a "Hingham Shipyard, " Derry St Shops" or a "Legacy Place". The Landing, can be a beautiful commercial zone if planned properly.
