We are signing this petition to show opposition for the Proposed Development of 1 & 2 bedroom Apartments(128 units) by "Lab PI Group LLC". The 14.793 acre property is located on West Candler Street in Winder, A.K.A. map and Parcel NumberWN11C 007 according to the Barrow Co. Tax Assessors Website. Mr. Wes Van-Kirk of Van Kirk Electric is pushing this rezone.

We strongly oppose and believe the addition of a High Density Apartments development will add no value to our surrounding communities as most of our current apartment communities are always half empty. We oppose high density housing in our area and want to prevent the negative consequences an impact like this will have: it will increase traffic, lower our property values by setting a precedent for High Density housing, increase crime, subsidized housing and overpopulate our school cluster. Specifically:

Please sign this petition to show your opposition to this rezone & development and let the Mayor of Winder, Winder City Council, and Barrow County Board of Commissioners know we do not approve! ATTENTION: The password needed to sign is change24

Updates

October 1, 2020

I have been hearing from so many of you about how these apartments will threaten the quiet life we have built on West Candler Street. I am currently working to get our neighbors together to present this opposition directly to the City Council.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not the only neighbor worried about the future of our streets. Your support proves that our community is paying close attention to what happens on West Candler and refuses to let this happen quietly.

This was originally proposed for 64 Senior (55+) units. This change request is a completely different proposal that negatively impacts the surrounding community; lowering property values while increasing burdens to schools, infrastructure (roads/traffic) and city services. I moved to Winder from Gwinnett to escape the ever increasing crowding and congestion. Don't ruin Winder.

PLEASE no more apartments in our town. We need more Green Space for parents and children. The high school needs a place for track and ROTC students to run besides the dangerous sidewalks. PLEASE... Thank you

The city of Winders new city council voted during a pandemic (covid19) back in April to change our zoning laws and maps without citizens input. Now we are facing R3 high-density Apartments city wide. This is against the 2018 Winder future land use plan and Barrow county's current future land use plan!. No one knows about this!.

I'll let my neighbors tell you what they think about the R3 High-density invasion of Barrow County. "When I moved here 3 years ago I choose Barrow county for it's "country feel" I did not want to live in a metropolitan area. High volume apartments are exact what I moved here to avoid. My husband commutes an hour each way so we can live in a nice peaceful country type setting. Do not turn Barrow county into the next rundown overcrowded section of Atlanta that no one will WANT to live in". Ada Bode, Auburn, GA, United States 12 hours ago via Change.org..

Finally good news! It's official. The city council voted tonight-(11/10/20) to allow the developer to "withdraw the rezone request (without prejudice)".. We just have to stay vigilant now so if/when the developer tries this again, we will be ready again!. Round one goes to "We the People".. https://www.change.org/nohighdensitybarrow

Sneaky Covid19 Rezones. Update. Reminder: Since the Developer has withdrawn the current/pending rezone application, we don't need to be at the city council meeting on 11/10/20 @ 6pm, although you are welcome to attend as I will also be their on 11/9 & 11/10 to monitor the situation. Thanks everyone for your support. For now we have them "on the ropes". Stay tuned for more updates. https://www.change.org/nohighdensitybarrow

We have a new petition and We're almost at 300 signatures![see link below]. Thanks also for everyone that came out in Winder & Auburn to support the parade for Joslyn Stinchcomb who came home from the hospital today, after suffering a vicious dog attack.  This community came together.  I hope we can come together and also keep out R3-high density apartments from this county.  Stay tuned.. https://www.change.org/nohighdensitybarrow
