Since it is Cubs season again...that also means it is Penske Truck Season on Montrose and other neighborhood streets again. There is a Penske Truck rental place on Clark just north of Addison that moves their trucks here on game day mornings so that they can rent out their lot. And the problem is that they then leave them for extended periods of time, often taking up more than one parking spot per truck that our residents need. The trucks themselves also provide potentially unsafe conditions in the neighborhood. It\'s time to take action against them. We, the residents of the neighborhood bound by Clark Street, Montrose, Broadway and all the north/south streets of Dover, Beacon, Malden, Magnolia, Racine, Clifton and Kenmore, do hereby request that the Penske Truck Rental, otherwise known as Cubs Park Service, located at 3650 N. Clark Street, stops parking their trucks on Montrose or the surrounding neighborhood streets. We further encourage residents to call 311 and report these parked trucks to the city so that the city knows our disdain for this company who takes away much needed parking for the residents of the neighborhood. We also believe that being in a mixed gentrification neighborhood, the trucks provide a lot of outside cover for potential illegal activity as well as inside the cargo areas, as they are routinely and irresponsibly left unlocked. This concerns us being especially close to an elementary school. We request that Tom Tunney, Alderman of Ward 44, and Helen Shiller, Alderman of Ward 46, work together to encourage Penske to not park their trucks on our neighborhood streets, nor to leave them there for any period of time. We also encourage aldermen Tunney and Shiller to encourage city police to ticket and tow any trucks found to be in violation of these measures. This petition will be e-mailed and snail mailed to Penske Truck, Aldermen Tunney and Shiller and the City of Chicago Police Department on or around May 1st, 2008.
