Enough is enough. The Shared Space Scheme in Felixstowe town centre is causing confusion amongst many local residents and elderly members of the community fear to walk through the town on their own as a result.

There is too much confusion surrounding the 'Courtesy Crossings', or which can be solved by reintroducing the old Zebra Crossings.

People should feel comfortable walking around the town centre and between shops, without having to worry about being run over a speeding car that could simply drive down Highfield Road or Victoria Street instead.

I hope you all feel as passionately as Ido about this and you sign this petition as a result.

Thank you for concern,

Nicholas Swain

I have been reading through the comments you are leaving and the stories of fear when crossing these streets honestly break my heart. This grew into something much larger than I originally intended because I am just one person who wanted to walk through town without worrying about traffic.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people feel the same way about our streets. The momentum behind this is entirely due to your willingness to speak up for a safer town.

I sat outside Neros last week as an elderly couple walked past a young man in a car came up behind them quite quickly and started honking his horn and shaking his head at them. So rude. It is obvious the shared space is not working. The couple after being shouted at had to sit down quite clearly shaken.

I have a daughter with AUTISM and we have to keep dodging cars and bikes that don't think there is a speed limit! It would be nice to just walk through town without having to worry all the time

I am a disabled person with a blue badge but I think the main town centre should be pedestrianised to make it safe. There are still plenty of places to park and plenty of access.

Finally someone is doing something about this situation, when walking though town with my baby is her pram I don't appreciate getting beeped at to move as someone wants to drive through town. It's unsafe for any pedestrians when they come racing down there as they can't be bothered to go the long way!

Ridiculous idea to start with as the town centre in way to small to share with cars. Having a hearing loss, I cannot hear cars crawling behind me and have been clipped by someone's wing mirror.

The shared space simply does not work. It is very confusing as the road is paved to look like a pedestrian area. The courtesy crossings are also badly placed and confusing. This was a council initiative that was foisted on to the public with zero consultation

This crossing is just dangerous. No one is sure who is going to stop or go. A zebra crossing or lights would be far safer.

Felixstowe Town Centre needs to be closed to cars. It really doesn't need any cars passing through by the shops while they are open. If needed allow deliveries outside of the main shopping hours.
