We, the undersigned residents of Chico, petition the City of Chico to construct a 150 ft stretch of ADA compliant sidewalk along the south side of E. Lindo Avenue between E. 9th Ave and Arbutus Ave. This stretch (currently unimproved) would connect two existing sidewalk facilities and make a complete contiguous connection to vastly improve pedestrian safety from vehicles.

As a resident of the Sunset neighborhood in Chico, I often walk with my two young children along the south side of E. Lindo Avenue between E. 9th Ave and Arbutus Ave to get to S&S Market. This street frontage (adjacent to the property with the bunnies/Thai massage) has no sidewalk and its unimproved condition is typically overgrown with vegetation and its uneven terrain can be unsafe for some pedestrians. Folks that are in wheelchairs, pushing strollers, or other wheeled items (baskets, etc.) are often forced into the roadway to utilize the paved surface for passage, where they have to contend with vehicle traffic.

E. Lindo Ave is a highly traveled vehicle corridor, also used by pedestrians including the elderly, disabled, young children, and parents pushing strollers. People from the neighborhoods east of Mangrove Ave. typically use this route to get to the Mangrove bus stops, S&S market, other Mangrove Ave. shops, and to the lighted intersection and crosswalk at 9th Ave/Mangrove.

The property owners along this stretch have done an admirable job periodically tidying up the space during their ownership over the past several years, but it is City right-of-way and should be maintained as such.

Given that existing sidewalk facilities exist on either side of this short stretch make constructing a sidewalk relatively easy. However, we as residents of this neighborhood must demonstrate its importance to the City. Please take a moment to sign the petition below to help improve pedestrian safety in our neighborhood.

Thanks!

UPDATE - 12/5/2017

Hello all,

Looks like there is some movement not only on this specific project, but also towards a Lindo Channel Master Management Plan in alignment with the City's ADA Transition Plan. In the ChicoER this weekend:

And also a link to the Staff Report highlighting E. Lindo Ave to Hwy99 undercrossing and until Neal Dow Ave as a priority area for making complete accessible routes.

While the Lindo Channel Master Management Plan has no current timeline, this project is on the City's radar. Also, I imagine the LCMMP would address several other Lindo Channel related issues, so this is a good thing!
