FYI - Below are some of the highlights of the letter we submitted below to the lead contact at City of Brookhaven who is responsible for prioritizing the sidewalk projects for the neighborhood.
We are in desperate need of a sidewalk on Apple Valley Road between Sunland Dr. NE and E. Osborne Rd. NE. As you know, this stretch is zoned both commercially and residentially and is also used as a "cut through" by many drivers. With no sidewalks, this has created a very unsafe walking situation. I see large trucks (as well as many other vehicles) speed down our road daily next to children walking with their parents. At least once a week we see a baby carriage on the road next to a speeding vehicle. It is just a matter of time until someone gets hurt and probably killed. The blind hill and the narrow road just exacerbate the very dangerous situation. The low speed bumps have done nothing to slow reckless drivers down.
Currently the sinkhole on Apple Valley is being fixed and I understand they are repaving Apple Valley soon. We would love to see a sidewalk incorporated into one of those projects especially with the greatly increased number of daily walkers due to Covid 19 and the development of 2700 Apple Valley, the AVB complex. For everyone's safety, please help make this a priority sidewalk project.

The city is finally finishing the sinkhole repairs, but that does not fix the real danger of trucks speeding past our front doors. Call the Public Works office today to demand they address the lack of safe walking space on Apple Valley Road. Post the link to this petition on your Facebook page so our neighbors know the fight for sidewalks is still active.

The momentum we have built proves our city leaders can no longer ignore this safety hazard. Email your representative today to demand they prioritize our sidewalk project at the upcoming council meeting.

PLEASE fix this. I live here and I am terrified to let my kids play anywhere near the street. Trucks fly down here like it's a highway.
Every time I try to jog down this road I get run off the pavement by people cutting through traffic. It is way to narrow for all these cars.
We really need a sidewalk. There are way too many trucks/cars speeding down the road within feet of children, runners, bikers, walkers every single day. It is very very dangerous.
I have 3 kids and I'm always concerned with all the traffic as well as a lot of distracted drivers on their phone not paying attention.
I am a resident on Apple Valley Rd. I take my young daughter on daily walks and have to dodge cars regularly. Sidewalks would mean the world to us!
We need a sidewalk so someone doesn't get really badly injured.

I walk my dog down Apple Valley and walk to MARTA… not having a sidewalk all the way from the corner of apple valley and Oaklawn to Dresden is extremely unsafe!!
