As the twenty week closure of the bridge in Cawood North Yorkshire comes ever closer, the people of Cawood need pedestrian access over the river while this work is undertaken. Please sign this petition to support the community in Cawood and get access over the river while this work takes place.

We hit 250 signatures today. It is exhausting to keep pushing when the authorities seem so indifferent to our needs but your support keeps me going.

The bridge closure is looming and my energy is flagging but we are nearly at two hundred and fifty signatures. Please tell your neighbors about this before the deadline passes.

Seeing this level of support reminds me that we are not fighting this bridge closure alone. The momentum is heavy but necessary as we prepare to face the local council.

My husband works in Cawood & has to travel from & back to York each day. Detouring will add 150 miles on to his weekly travel, incurring longer days & much higher petrol costs which we as a family cannot afford. Giving pedestrian access will help tremendously. Please consider this. Thank you.

I cycle over this bridge at least 3 times a week on my way to the university as A 19 is too busy for cyclists. I am not using cycle path to York as I had few unpleasant incidents involving dogs and their owners. Please provide pedestrian crossing in Cawood over the river for the duration of the work.

As working parents, without any temporary pedestrian access we will be unable to leave work near York and get home in time to collect our child from our village after school activities and afterschool club before closing time. To go alternative routes in peak traffic times through Selby will add on at least another very precious 1 hour.

I need to get my daughter to school in Escrick every day and the detour will be huge. Also we are both Dr's who work and are on call for York so the bridge closure will impact massively on our commute and response times for emergencies.

As a woman due to give birth during the closure, pedestrian access is vital to me for the saftly of myself and my child if i need to get to york hospital in an emergency. I have family at the otherside who could collect me so i dont plan on cluttering the road up with cars.

It is essential that at very least pedestrian access is maintained across the river during the works. Anything less would isolate Cawood and harm the village community and its businesses.

Because that is the shortest cycle walking route to York

Across river access is required for many due to work commitments, surely work on the bridge times could co-inside with normal working hours, thus restricting full closure to a minimum time when required. On the other hand perhaps 24hr working on the repairs would reduce the closure time ?
