An E-Petition written on behalf of Spenborough Chamber of Trade and businesses and residents of Cleckheaton, calling for the immediate and permanent opening of Pyenot Hall Lane, Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire to all vehicles (i.e. the removal of the bollards), so traffic can move freely between Pyenot Hall Lane and the Bradford Road. We understand that this will have little effect until the gas works are completed but the closure was in pilot stage for 18 months. The council is looking for opinion on the subject to decide if the trial should become permanent. We have been promised a change to the junction for the last 5 years and so far nothing has changed. At a residents meeting it was proposed to have speed humps but then the road was closed completely causing massive queues in the town centre and on the bradford road. We will use the number of signatures from this petition to support us in taking further action to the council for a full debate. Reasons to open Pyenot Hall Lane immediately to all vehicles include:- Westgate is now becomming a huge problem for both commuters and residents and is having a knock on effect on local business, bus services and the community. People who work or drop children off at school in Cleckheaton or or travel through Cleckheaton will have journey times, fuel costs and CO2 emissions significantly reduced. Improved access to the Doctors surgery and pharmacy situated on Town Centre, especially for those coming from Heckmondwike, Batley and Dewsbury. Congestion around Westgate and Parkside would be significantly reduced. If you agree or are affected by this please sign the petition below to help us.

Updates

July 4, 2013

The traffic congestion on Westgate is becoming impossible for our local businesses and residents to endure any longer. We are currently organizing our evidence to present directly to the council so they can no longer ignore the impact of these bollards on our daily lives.

July 4, 2013

Seeing the feedback from our neighbors confirms that I am not the only one exhausted by sitting in these endless queues. This momentum proves that our town is ready to fix the mess on Westgate and finally move forward together.

Need access to the doctors fast and this closure makes it impossible. Stop making life harder for the residents!

Fix the traffic flow. Its hurting my business having customers stuck in queues for 20 mins just to get to the shop.

Living on Westgate is a nightmare now. Traffic is backed up all day and the air quality is just getting worse. Open it back up already.

Total incompetence from the council. They promised us real changes years ago and we just get road closures. Joke.

Cleckheaton is gridlocked every single morning. School run takes me double the time it should. Ridiculous decision to keep those bollards.

Just open the road. The trial has been a disaster and everyone knows it.
