Network Rail has confirmed the lease for the North Wing will be awarded to an operator who committed to our community requirements. We are now reviewing the final contract terms to ensure these operational promises remain binding for the duration of the tenancy.

This petition has been created to represent local residents views on the potential use of the North Wing Retail Unit within Peckham Rye Station.

Peckham has a rich and vibrant heritage, filled with a mix of cultures and a warm local history.

The decision as to who to grant this space to will play a key role in the future of the area. The unit will represent the cornerstone of the re-development of Peckham Rye Station and therefore it is integral to grant this space to the right group.

Therefore, this petition is to ask Network Rail to please take the following key points into consideration when deciding who will be awarded this highly important space.

Please choose a group which:

1) Has made a clear effort to base their bid around the needs of the local community and has made an effort to connect with local community groups and assess the needs of those who would use the space.

2) Will ensure the space is used to promote and support local artists.

3) Will have a flexible toilet policy as there is already a lack of public toilets in Peckham.

4) Will provide an affordable menu which is accessible for morning and evening commuters.

5) Will use parts of this large space for local events and talks.

6) Will use parts of this space to provide free or affordable education or activities for the local community, such as free yoga, English learning classes or even cookery classes for example.

7) Will connect with local artists, art colleges and community groups to help develop and maintain relationships with artists in the community.

8) Will make sure the food and drink used in the space are sourced from within Peckham or as close as possible to the area, to help support local businesses.

9) Will use local tradesmen and businesses when developing the space.

10) Will ideally choose a group which already has a local history.

This list is not exclusive, but shows an example of the feeling of local residents and the importance of focus on community for the group taking over this space.

Please sign this petition if you support are in support of the views above and please share with your friends if you wish to see the above points implemented in the North Wing Retail Unit at Peckham Rye Station.

Thank You.

The scale of the response has effectively secured our position to request a formal consultation with Network Rail representatives. My focus is now on drafting the briefing document that outlines our requirements for the North Wing unit based on the feedback gathered here.

Make this a great and innovative local project and support talent in the local community; this will only happen if multinationals and big businesses are prevented from taking over - please no more boring Starbucks, MacDonalds, Costa, M&S - there are already more than enough of those at other railway stations!

We (Mouse Tailers from Peckham Square :) ) would do anything to have this opportunity to create a true Peckham coffee shop in there. Peckham has got it's own sole and character and let's be honest, Starbucks does not fit in. They would probably get busy anyway, but it would be really sad for the local community and not fair for the local businesses.

This is an unmissable opportunity to empower a locally-based group to use this important landmark building in a way that will benefit local people rather than corporate shareholders

Please be a little more imaginative and respectful to local residents, the station represents a focal point for the area and what is done here has far wider implications for the residents and community. I would respectfully request a more sympathetic use than a chain pub here!!!

Keep it local and keep Peckham a vibrant community, rather than a bland homogeneous area.

Peckham's got a growing number of excellent independent food and drink outlets that add variety to the area. Please don't settle for the highest bidder: grant this unit to a business that reflects the spirit of this characterful place.
