Started by Faribault Parents 4 years, 10 months ago

We believe that Faribault families should have choices! There is much division in our society today and many arguments on both sides of the aisle. This pandemic is NOT going away. We will live with it always, much like we have learned to live with other viruses. We respectfully request that the school board continue to allow families and staff to make their own health decisions in regards to masking.

If you are a parent who believes that families should be able to make their own choices, please sign our petition. The school board needs to hear our voices!

It should be a person choice ….. And this is something that is not going away so we can’t wear masks for life. It is like the flu. We need to move on, and live our lives. Plus you can’t understand what people are saying when wearing masks too, hard to hear what they are saying too. One reason, and lots of others.

As parents, we are in charge of making the best choices for our children. When it comes to to masking, not only is there no data supporting use of masks at young ages, but what about the other health and social issues this could be causing. Keep these choices with parents.

I believe that parents need to make informed decisions on this issue for their own families. Also, we need to focus on other ways to help build children’s immune systems such as eating healthy, getting plenty of rest, drinking water, and exercising.

Children shouldn’t have to wear a mask to make you feel safe. If you don’t feel safe stay home and we will find a replacement for you.

I am a grandparent who wants the best for our grandchildren ... and for all of the families of our community. Please allow parents to make their own choices for their families. Thank you.

There is virtually no risk to people under 18, the adults in the schools have the option and ability to be both vaccinated and wear masks, even haz suits if they wanted... No reason to force anyone to mask it should be a choice

I sign this in support of the parents of students with special needs who were brave enough to speak before the school board and share their personal stories. Under section 2: Additional considerations for K-12 Schools of the CDC's Guidance for COVID-19 Prevention in K-12 Schools, schools are to be aware that distancing and masking can be difficult for children with disabilities, sensory or cognitive issues.. They are encouraged to adjust strategies as needed including prioritizing mask wearing for times when it is difficult to separate students and to use positive reinforcement and behavioral techniques to help students adjust. It sounds like reasonable accommodations, modifications, and assistance for students with disabilities and other health needs are not being made but rather punitive measures are being taken when these students struggle with masking... an all-or-nothing approach. The stories of harsh treatment of these students who have special needs by not only other students but by school officials may be more damaging and have long-term negative implications worse than the masks themselves. If the district is not going to make accommodations for students with disabilities or other health care needs (per CDC guidelines), then the only fair and equitable policy is one based on a parent's right to choose.
