We, the undersigned Windham residents, many of whom are parents of children in the Windham School District, express our unequivocal support for the district’s decision to allow parents to choose whether or not their children wear masks in school buildings. We respectfully request that the district and school board continue the plan as it was drafted and affirmed by a 3-2 vote of the board on August 24, 2021.

Publicly available data from the New Hampshire DHHS makes it clear that while children in New Hampshire represent more than 20,000 positive Covid tests, they account for less than 2% of all hospitalized cases in the state. Thankfully, children have accounted for 0 Covid deaths in New Hampshire. As reported by the CDC, 55,352 children in the US have died from various causes since the start of the Covid pandemic. Only 412 of those children have died with Covid. As of this writing, Covid has been present in only .74% of pediatric deaths nationwide.

The likelihood of young children acting as vectors of viral transmission, the role of schools in the proliferation of cases, and the efficacy of masks in halting transmission are all to some extent debatable. However, one thing that we believe is not debatable is that parents have both the capacity and the moral obligation to choose whether a face covering during the school day is an appropriate course for their child. We ask that the school board continue to affirm that they respect and support the freedom of choice for each and every family in the community by keeping masks optional, as indicated by the 3-2 vote of the board on September 24, 2021, and as preferred by the below listed residents of Windham.

**The parent's of Windham School District are asking for Windham, NH Resident signatures in support of a continued Parent's choice mask protocol for all Windham Schools.**

I honestly did not think this would gain this much steam when I first hit publish but it feels like the momentum is really shifting now. It is wild to look at the list of names and see so many neighbors who all feel exactly the same way about the board meeting and our right to choose. I am heading out to the park now but I just wanted to say that this energy is absolutely incredible to witness.

We owe it to our kids to ensure a minimal quality of life at home and at school - I'm happy to commit to keeping them home if there is any risk of being infected, but if they are perfectly healthy, let them play and participate in school freely.

I am an ICU nurse and I have been wearing a mask since the start of the pandemic. After my long shifts, I feel more tired, and I have developed sinus issues likely related to wearing a mask for long periods of time. Other work colleagues have reported developing sore throats after their shifts. I believe masking should be a choice, and the risk/benefits should be determined by parents based on their child’s needs. Thank you.

Please, no torture of our kids. Thr University of Waterloo found that cotton masks are only 10 percent effective at capturing aerosol released by people. That is based on being warm with proper sizing and being warn properly. How many kids actually have it sized right and wear correctly? None. Which makes them completely ineffective!

There is absolutely no scientific evidence that would suggest children wearing masks all day is beneficial. It is exactly the opposite. Children need to see each other smile, build their own immune systems, and feel free to learn without the weight on their shoulders and fear associated with masks. Let them breathe!

All due respect to those deciding over this. As a parent. I’m tired of the fear, I want my kid to make friends, I want us to face the virus instead of continue to run to illusions of safety. I’m done with all of it. Especially the false senses of security. I’m sure the board will make the right decision as it originally did with choice over fear. At this point if people are going to be pulling their kids out of school. Let it be the hypochondriacs of our community who are just going to freak out on you for every sniffle their child comes home with and cries the loudest no matter what you do. It will never be enough for those people. Ever! Let the more reasonable people come together.

School Board Member Rob Breton, please stand with your original decision and don’t be swayed by those who threaten and intimidate.
