A Big Box store of any kind is wrong for Monroe, it does not fit the character of the Town and any establishment of that magnitude open 24/7 is wrong on so many levels...Monroe needs business development but it needs the right kind of business.
Having purchased a home in Monroe this past summer, I had no idea a Wal-Mart was planned for the town. I would most certainly have looked to another town had I been aware of the facts. I would urge anyone who knows the history of Wal-Mart's impact on every town it touches to sign this petition.
I live near Rt. 25 and traffic is bad now, I can begin to image how much worse it will get. I moved up this way to get away from the gridlock in lower Fairfield County. So much for the quiet, rural town.
A box store would kill every single small business in Monroe. Add minimum wage jobs for high schoolers by taking away family run businesses? NO THANK YOU!
The way Walmart treats its employees is shameful. I do not support Walmart no matter what town it is in. As a resident of Monroe, I have additional concerns about the negative impact Walmart would have on the environment and traffic. Route 25 already has too much traffic.
NO matter what, this development won't be sustainable.

It will be a disaster for Monroe. The roads can not handle anymore traffic. It will put over 20 percent of the existing businesses out of business. They approached us over 10 years ago and we turned them down.
