Shelton is close enough. This will close local businesses.

This will choke route 25, ruin home values, kill small businesses and local manufacturing jobs even more, and destroy the trail from Trumbull to Newtown

Having purchased a home in Monroe this past summer, I had no idea a Wal-Mart was planned for the town. I would most certainly have looked to another town had I been aware of the facts. I would urge anyone who knows the history of Wal-Mart's impact on every town it touches to sign this petition.

I have lived in Monroe since 1978 and alot has changed alot of good and alot of bad,I enjoyed the small town I grew up in and Building a Walmart is one step closer to making it away from that. I love Monroe and everything it offers but building a Walmart is Bad for traffic and this small community.

I have never and will never set foot in a Wal-Mart. Had I known this was afoot, I'd have purchased a home in another town.

Monroe is my home town. I firmly believe that the very character of the town would be permanently altered for the worse if Wal-Mart were permitted to build in Monroe. Where ever Wal-Mart sets up shop, local business suffer and fade away. The economy of the town suffers further by the influx of low wage jobs which are mostly part-time. They pay their employees minimum wage , or less, without benefits ( or offer ones they can not afford to pay into) . Wal-Mart's history is to retaliate against employees who speak up and try to negotiate for more. Furthermore: There is the traffic congestion issue which would ensue, ( Something I do not believe that Monroe can handle.) Finally: The support of sweatshop overseas labor which makes their "low, low, prices" possible is unconscionable. As for myself I consider Wal-Mart to be the "Evil Empire" of commerce. I go out of my way to avoid shopping at Wal-Mart. I hope you will avoid the temptation to give the town away through tax incentives. Please, keep Monroe, Monroe, and deny them a foothold in this special community.
