The undersigned residents of Miami Shores Village are calling to voice their opposition to the variance application identified as PZ-01-16-201610 for the placement of a 100 ft. tall wireless personal telecommunications service antenna tower to be located at 2 N.E 104th Street. This type of facility should not be built in our residential neighborhoods. It will deter from our "Village Beautiful” community. We hereby respectfully ask our Planning and Zoning Director and our Elected Officials to deny the application on behalf of the village residents.

Can Cell Towers Cause Cancer?

A study performed by doctors from the German city of Naila monitored 1000 residents who had lived in an area around two cell phone towers for 10 years. During the last 5 years of the study they found that those living within 400 meters of either tower had a newly-diagnosed cancer rate three times higher than those who lived further away.

Breast cancer topped the list, but cancers of the prostate, pancreas, bowel, skin melanoma, lung and blood cancer were all increased. Naila Study

Cellphone MastsAnother study by researchers at Tel Aviv university compared 622 residents who lived within 350 meters of a cell phone tower with 1222 control patients who lived further away. They found 8 cancer cases in the group affected by the cell tower, compared with only 2 cases amongst the controls.

I have been reviewing the recent comments left on this petition and the concerns regarding the proposed tower placement are widespread. These personal accounts highlight exactly why we must preserve the character of our neighborhood. I am currently preparing formal remarks to present to the Planning and Zoning board at their next public hearing.

The momentum behind this effort clearly demonstrates the depth of community concern regarding the proposed tower placement in our residential area. This level of engagement confirms that protecting the character of our village is a priority for many residents.

Given the strict conditions placed upon home ownership in the Shores (paint permit to change the color of your front door, for example) on the grounds of village aesthetics, approval for such an unnecessary eyesore would be ridiculous and only undercut the entire rationale for permit requirements for homeowners.

Other communities have found ways to make these aesthetically acceptable, so can Miami Shores. If this is really needed, use the church spire.

This monstrosity should not be built in a suburban neighborhood. New cell node technology has existed for years that does not require huge towers. If needed, small, unobtrusive antennas can be placed in discrete locations. No one should have to tolerate one of these towers anywhere near their home.

I just spent a ridiculous amount of money to buy and completely rehab a 1940 miami shores home because i expect miami shores to be a nice community to raise children. This small town should not be the site of a 100 tower. What will be next!??!

This is a horrible idea. As a father of 2 kids I am very well informed about the health effects this cell tower might have on their health. I very strongly oppose it!!!

I'm sure we can come up with an alternate site for the tower, perhaps on Biscayne away from homes?. There are numerous locations such as the Kmart or the mall on 91 across from publix?

the cell phone tower at MSPC should be able to handle this. I am totally against this.

To even consider having this monstrosity in our village is ridiculous
