Stop the Lindenhurst Cell Tower

Lindenhurst residents were shaken when we found out Lindenhurst Village was considering adding a commercial cell phone tower to the center of our town near schools. The site is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood —near Alleghany Ave. Elementary School and Lindenhurst Middle School. Even with just a few days notice,we needresidents to show up at the Village board meeting, Thursday March 19, 2015to voice their concern and displeasure. Lindenhurst Village Hall 430 South Wellwood Ave at 7pm.

We now have to take action and let our voices be heard.

Our concerns:

While some “experts” claim the science is not settled on the health risks, independent studies spanning the globe (most notably Germany and Israel) say that living within 1500 feet of a cell phone increases your risk of cancer by anywhere from 300-400 percent, and countries around the world have banned towers being constructed within that proximity to schools. Cell towers are structurally unsafe, and frequently catch fire and/or collapse.

In addition, falling environmental debris (such as ice) from the height of a tower can cause serious damage to surrounding homes, and result in death if a human being is struck.

Property values in the area can reportedly drop anywhere from 2-to-25 percent, and the federal government will not back a new mortgage for a home purchased within a certain radius of the tower.

I see the numbers climbing and it feels like we are finally getting somewhere but the village board is going to ignore us if we stop now. Send this to the parents at the middle school because if we hit that next big number before the meeting they will actually have to look at us.

I am a Middle School student and I don't want to put my classmates and my own health at risk.

I keep hearing everyone say that everyone carries a cellphone so why not put in the tower. Well, that's not true, Because I DON'T carry a cellphone. And I live next to the venetian site. So why should I be subjected to the cellphone towers electromagnetic frequency emissions?

I think one cell tower in Lindenhurst already agh the DPW Highway Yard on Albany Avenue is one too many. We definitely don't need another one!!

My cell phone works just fine. From a mother of a 17 month old cancer survivor this is too close. I would consider leaving if this went up. The potential risks outweigh the benefits from my point of view.

I will be going to help Lindenhurst residents understand what is going on. I think your concerns should also include property depreciation. No one wants to have their property devalued due to the location near a cell tower. There are other more suitable locations for a tower in more industrial areas.
