From the CDC site:

There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, or water playgrounds. Additionally, proper operation of these aquatic venues and disinfection of the water (with chlorine or bromine) should inactivate the virus.

Many pools are starting to reopen across the state and country. We now know that while VA did not allow pools to initially open, many community pools in this area are now opening up, and many in some of the largest HOA-managed properties in Fairfax County. They have found safe ways to manage the number of people in pools and access to related facilities and we believe that Kingstowne management can also determine a safe way to do this. We would like KROC to find a way to open the pools as soon as possible, and keep them open as late as possible. We understand that this could be hard, and could require finding a new pool management company, but we think the effort is worth it.

While it sounds like they are working on a plan for the fitness centers, we would also like them to think out of the box to open these as soon as possible. If we are not using the community centers (especially at Snyder), some of the machines and equipment could be moved upstairs to allow for proper distancing.

The next Board of Trustees meeting is on July 8th. It looks like I have a confirmed speaker slot. They do not want multiple speakers on the same side of a subject so I will be speaking on behalf of this effort. We may also request a special meeting, and this petition may do that as well. To show additional support for this, and/or a special session, please email [email protected]. Or if you want to send your feedback directly to them, please send your thoughts at any time to that email. The more emails they get, the more responsive they might be.

I really thought this might just fizzle out but seeing so many neighbors jump on board is wild. People actually want to swim and use the gym and I am starting to think the board might finally have to listen because the momentum here is just too loud to ignore now.

The pools in Kingstowne were one of the reasons we settled here. Other communities have opened their pools, why can Kingstowne not do it? Is management not up to it? Are desinfectans todo expensive? You could charge us a little bit more these 2.5 months!? The health of our community also relies on outdoor activities!!

Please open the pools. Here are some ideas on how to do this: Sign up in advance for 2-3 hour time slots. Allow access from outside the pool where we don’t have to walk through locker rooms. Have 2-3 lap lanes open. No guests permitted. Everyone using the pool signs a waiver so they can’t sue KROC if they catch COVID -19.

Now that theGovernor has declared pools open, it seems that the KROC decision was premature. We get a lot of joy from the pools & recommend they open them sensibly. They already sent guidance out about reserving a lane for laps & suddenly reversed course. Let’s reopen In July before Summer is over.

It’s unfortunate that KROC didn’t involve the community in this decision. We should brainstorm to find a solution to avoid colliding the pools but allow for safety. Many pools are allowing sign-up times for folks to balance the numbers. This is a solution to consider.

Just got back from 3 month in West Coast of Florida-pools opened for over a month with social distancing and occupancy limits. My zip code which encompasses a larger area than Kingstowne- only 15 COVID 19 cases. Residents only, No building access, 50% occupancy, can impose time limits - 1-2 hour limits for swimming/wading.

As new residence of Kingstowne we are deeply disappointed in this decision. We understand the need for caution, but we believe the Kingstowne board acted in fear and with far too much haste in reaching this decision. Other community pools are opening. Kingstowne explore ways to make this work safely before ruling out the entire season

Don’t open the pools. People are getting crazy for jumping into the pool and spreading the corona. I don’t understand if they don’t have bathroom in their house to take a 5min shower. What they do in the pool? Whether pool provides better water than bathrooms. They will kill others by swimming together in the same pool by giving corona virus to each other. No one knows who is symptomatic. Opening pool means killing people, genocide in these unusual circumstances.
