It is deeply depressing to read that New Ross Councillors and Council Official Eamon Hore want to name the new bridge bypassing New Ross after Rose Kennedy. New Ross already has far too many references to the Kennedy's and enough is enough. The Kennedy's also have no connection to County Kilkenny so there is a degree of arrogance to suggest that the New Ross connection should be used. Their is a total lack of imagination in New Ross that has held it back for decades and we need to stop this 'all eggs in one basket' mentality. A public competition should be run in County Wexford and County Kilkenny to find a suitable name. A shortlist should then be drawn up, and the public asked to vote on the name they want.

The steady growth of this movement reveals a shared desire for a naming process that truly reflects the identity of our region. It is heartening to see so many people engage with the idea that our civic monuments should represent a collective decision rather than a single perspective.

One hundred people have now indicated that they also feel it is time to look beyond the usual names for our local infrastructure. This milestone confirms that there is a real appetite for a more imaginative and inclusive process regarding our public spaces.

It is really ridicilous to name the bridge after someone who never visited the town and contributed nothing other than being JFKs mother. Call it The New Ross Bridge or The Pink Rock Bridge or the New Barrow Bridge but for Heaven's sake give the Kennedys a rest. No one will actually call it that anyway.
Omg surely they could find a more deserving person to name the bridge after,,,, Eoin Meehan comes to mind ,,, or what about James Moore Lett the boy hero of The battle of New Ross in 1798 surely they hv thousands to choose from with it been another Kennedy ,,,
While I don't have any problem with bridge being called after Rose Kennedy, I strongly believe that the people of New Ross area and South Kilkenny should decide or have an input into the name of this bridge.
We can surely start coming up with other naming conventions other than referencing the Kennedy family so much. Let's put it to public vote & get their input - why not ask people to submit suggestions, shortlist 5-10 and then get the public to vote via online questionnaire & some physical means.
Pink Rock and landscape are the areas is been constructed near. The local residents should have an I'm put also. Also the barrow flows under it also.plus the Norman tower on the hill near landscape is another medieval land mark.
It will be called the Pink Rock bridge anyway so get the official name to match.
Ridiculous suggestion to name our bridge after Rose Kennedy she has no connection with Kilkenny and never visited Ireland her profession was a socialite a person who plays a prominent role in high society attending various fashionable social gatherings. Hardly deserves to have a bridge named after her.
