OBJECTION - WP/16/00064/AMD | Non-material amendment to planning permission ref: WP/2004/0600 to the appearance of the bridge over the River Ise for route 4
Bovis Homes Limited have submitted a planning application seeking to change the design and appearance of the proposed River Ise bridge that is to be constructed as part of the Stanton Cross development.
Wellingborough Council originally approved the design of the bridge when planning permission was granted for Stanton Cross development in January 2008.
The bridge that is currently approved by the Council has a brick pilasters and an arched fascia, to complement the historic curved bridges over the railway in the near vicinity.
The changes to the bridge, as now proposed by Bovis Homes, seek to remove the brick pilasters and the arched fascia and will result in a bridge that no longer achieves the design principles required by the Wellingborough East Development Framework Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) November 2003.
The new bridge will be viewed by all users of the north south route running adjacent to the River Ise through the proposed Town Park and River Ise Country Park. The original approved design for the bridge with pilasters and the arched fascia beam provides an aesthetic focal structure in the landscape that satisfies the key considerations of the SPG.

If you allow the developer to renege on one design element, then it'll open the flood gates to every other requirement of the development (and haven't we all seen this before). Please keep to the original and APPROVED design.
Surely people would like to see a bridge on their approach to Wellingborough that is in keeping with the architectural design of the existing bridge to allow them to appreciate the heritage of our town.
Yet another example of coming up with a good design knowing it will help gain planning consent knowing they had no intention of doing what had been agreed by the local authority - make them build what has was agreed in the first place!
The original design looks quite nice, the amended design looks hideous - obviously cheaper for Bovis Homes but at what cost to the town's image. We have one chance to get this right
New one looks like a generic motorway bridge...nobody wants that except maybe Bovis shareholders increasing their dividend. Think the good folk of Wellingborough deserve better much than that - we are living with the bridge for a long time and want something to be proud of.
When you do something do it well, don't change goal post after agreeing to terms
we need to take a more ornate Victorian outlook rather than just a bland minimalist lump.

The bridge must compliment the materials and structure of the nearby station. This area and the station is one of wellingborough's greatest assets. We want commuters going north and south to see Wellingborough at it's best to encourage sustained growth and development in domestic and business areas.
