The city officially rejected the zoning change for the drive-thru at Strasburg and Ottawa. I am relieved that our homes and local streets will be spared from this constant traffic and noise. Thank you for protecting the neighborhood I love.

Alpine Community

There is a proposal to build an A&W restaurant with a full 24/7 drive-thru in our area. The property is at the corner of Strasburg and Ottawa where the former Petro-Canada station was. This requires a zoning change from C-7 (service station) to C-8 (commercial). There has already been one meeting regarding this, next one is scheduled Monday, February 13, 2017 at 7pm
Council Chambers, 2nd floor, City Hall 200 King Street West, Kitchener.

This property is only 0.26 hectares, and almost all regions agree that the minimum lot sized required for a drive-thru is 0.30 hectares. Most cities have '30 meter buffer zones' when in sensitive residential neighbourhoods, Kitchener does not. This drive-thru has a 13 car stack lane. It will only build a wooden fence and no noise protection for the residence from the car and speaker noises. The city planners say there is no scientific basis for carbon monoxide emissions affecting residences and went as far as to say, how would the homeowner be able to tell if it was from the drive-thru or the traffic on the street. There are 4 homes that directly border this property. The odors coming from a fast food restaurant and their garbage, the additional light pollution and headlights into homes, the noise, the increased traffic on the already congested corner, the increased litter are why we are asking for your help.

Property values of living next to a fast food 24/7 drive-thru will affect more than just the direct bordering properties.

Add your name to this petition if you feel there is already enough commercialization here, for this tiny site. With only 4 homes directly bordering the site, its a very small voice, please add yours to help. Please copy and paste this petition to share with your social media. I only have a few more days before I approach our Councilor Paul Singh of Ward 6 and I would very much like to give him a reason to fight for us.

We thank you.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not the only neighbor worried about these headlights shining into our bedrooms. It is a relief to know that our community understands exactly what is at stake for our homes and our peace of mind.

This property is too small and residential is too close. We live behind Boston Pizza but there is a parking lot and buffer area and we still are affected by the light and smells, not to mention the recent influx of rats. We captured 6 within six days. I hope this is not allowed to go ahead.

Heres an idea! Why does that space need to be filled with a brick box of pollution? Lay down sod and plant fruit trees. Healthy food, helps clean the air, adds colour to a dingy grey area, no rats, no stink, happy neighbours, and inline with the "walkability " agenda being pushed in this city.

There is enough commercial choices along this stretch of road. The main intersections were fine until CoK started approving all of the land use for retail. The infrastructure cannot handle further increases in traffic for yet another drive-thru. It's time to start respecting the tax paying citizens and not franchises.

Drive thrus don't build community. They don't provide a space for community members to meet and socialize instead they bring traffic, pollution and noise into a community.

Of all the fast food, A&W is my favourite. But there already is one not far away on Homer Watson and Bleams. This is not an appropriate spot as it is too small, in an already congested area.

The traffice volume is already dangerously high we certainly don't need to add to this traffic congestion with another restaurant, please do not consider this project, young children cross this area for school, adds further danger for children walking

We have enough trouble with the riff raff hanging around Popeyes and throwing garbage and bottles into our backyard and pool, doing often damage. There is also a lot of problems with the drunk people walking from Chicago's, Boston Pizza, and Montanans. There is a McDonalds that is further away from the housing that is there to service as a drivethrough keeping the fumes away from the houses, however putting in another one, can I ask how on earth are you trying to look after our neighborhood breathing in this crap and taking in the crap as it is yet to add another drive through to accomdate the drunks who want to eat after midnight and yet to make it 24 hours???? How can this be legal....and for the environment if not for the people that have to live in this area........Who care about us right....as long as you can make taxes on the lot!
