Dear Walton On Thames & Surrounding Areas Residents.

This petition has been set up to try and show the council how we feel about the new cycle lanes in Walton on Thames - particularly along Terrace Road.

Who on this planet, in their right mind, would have decided that it would be a good idea to narrow the roads - Especially Terrace Road, Walton on Thames by nearly a quarter of its width in order to accommodate cyclists who will never use the new, wider foot/cycle path?

It is virtually impossible for any road cyclist to use this "new improved" path because of all of the side roads that it crosses and all of the kerbs.

All that has been achieved is to force cyclists onto a narrow road and the traffic is trying to overtake them. Therefore you have made it more dangerous for cyclists all round. Its only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.

Why did the council not think to paint a blue cycle lane in the existing road for the cyclist to use...was it's too simple or was it simply a case of using up budgets so they are allocated next year?

I am sure it would have been a lot more cost-effective to paint a cycle lane, rather than pay what must have been a ridiculous total sum of OUR MONEY for this pathetic project.

Please sign if you agree with the above and would like to see the roads put back to their previous width and blue cycle lanes put in instead.

Its only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed - please show your enthusiasm and support.

If successful I will deliver this petition to the council and hope for the best!

Yours Sincerely,

Walton On Thames Resident

*** UPDATE ***

Since writing the copy above another valid point has been made. As a driver pulling out of Cambridge road onto Terrace road the pavements are now double width and the road so narrow that when pulling out in a 4x4/estate car/van the front of your car is intact so far out that you are Forced into driving on the other side of the road risking a head on collision from oncoming traffic.

Well done Surrey County Council
