New pavements/cycle lanes in Walton on Thames are DANGEROUS!!!

This is one of the most dangerous cycle systems I have seen, pedestrians getting hit by cyclists on the path, cyclist being hit by cars pulling out of their driveways, cyclists being hit by cars as the road had been narrowed on both sides, cyclists not using the cycle lanes because there is road every 500 metres and people being hit by cyclists because the pavement outside Marks & Spencer’s is now a cycle. In all the other areas I have lived, I have never seen anything so dangerous and a council who cares so little about public safety.

Since it was put in Terrace road into town Never gets used cycles use road along side it . IN DEFENCE Why would they ride on a way track Its full of bumps which causes accidents it also crosses several streets (also dangerous) And the silly metal round markers those( silver things stuck in ground) Are dangerous not only are they slippery but raised . The whole thing is a joke ,waste of time . Rubbish design great waste of money .

A really bad decision on behalf of council. I have lived in Walton 27 years and have seen volume of traffic increase 2fold. Road is now so dangerous for all traffic.

Ridiculous waste of our money and more dangerous for road users.

Not only do the cyclists still cycle on the narrowed road, but it horrifies me to see toddlers walking right next to the cycle lane. An accident waiting to happen.

Accidents waiting to happen outside the shops due the deliveries NEEDED to be made.

I use this route to cycle to work from Weybridge during the winter months as the Thames path is often under water. To begin with I really made an effort to stick to the paths but after too many close calls with pedestrians / kids / dogs, I feel it's best to stick to the road (I'm usually going upwards of 20mph anyway). I can tell this doesn't sit well with the car drivers but at least they can see me coming. I would be interested to see what actual research was carried out to convince the council to commit to this scheme. No one seems very happy with it.

I am a frequent visitor having relatives in the area. Having seen cyclists using the now narrow road and ignoring the cycle path I agree with every word. Whoever planned this madness needs to take responsibility - what a waste of money.

I have never seen any cyclists in the cycle lane, they prefer to be on the road so they dont have to stop at side roads. Traffic is even more congested now and dangerous with cyclists and cars in narrow road lanes. One even thumped a friends car recently, as the friend drew level to pass him, the cyclist wanting to turn right, signaled as my friend drew level with him slowing down to overtake. The cyclist assumed he should have had the right to pull out regardless of my friend being abreast of him, became annoyed and thumped his car!

I travel through Walton on a regular basis and it beggars belief to think how much money Elmbridge B. C. have wasted on the cycle paths in the town. It seems to me that all they have achieved is to bring the town to a standstill by narrowing the road, especially at the traffic lights were the road has been narrowed. I have never seen anyone riding a push bike on the cycle lanes. What a complete an utter waste of public money.

I go to Walton ever Saturday over the past few months I have only seen one person riding on the cycle path. All you have created is a traffic problem

Cyclists are still forced on to the road as cars are parked on the pavement/new cycle path.. what was the point?! Narrow roads which are still being shared by both drivers and cyclists!

I've not seen one person on a bike use these new cycle lane, now sure what kind of idiot would come up with a plan like that.

This scheme does nothing for the cyclist and causes pedestrians an even bigger problem on adjoining footpaths where cyclists now feel entitled to be despite being contrary to the Highway Code. Good cyclists ignore the 'shared use' footpaths but now have narrower roads to use. Walton bridge could easily have accommodated painted cycle paths on the road surface (by narrowing the footpaths by a metre) and this would mean better access for emergency vehicles as well. The whole scheme is a total waste of taxpayers' money and the council should be ashamed to have let it get built.

Just lately it's been very dangerous, ok its not finished, but will it improve? All real cyclists are using a very narrow road. With large lorries swinging around bollards even I've been worried on the pavement. What is the highway code in relation to cyclists on pavements, does anyone know? I've seen near misses already. Surely pavements are for pedestrians for a reason, their safety. How can you have cyclists on the path in the town centre eg past Waitrose then negotiating pedestrians at lights? I've never seen anything so dangerous as this whole layout. Surely a painted cycle line or bicycle signs in conjunction with 20mph limit would have been enough. What do cyclists think? Do you feel safer, or at risk? What do pedestrians think, do you feel at risk? What do drivers think, do you feel its dangerous for cyclists & pedestrians, plus trouble getting through these roads without hitting something? How safe is it coming off a ramp into a main road! How is this whole scheme safer for anyone?

I suspose the council thinks it clever to effect the shops trading along Terrace Road, deliveries are being effected and causing delays to vehicles while unloading, Did the council ever consider the traders?

The cycle path is a waste of just over £1,000,000 I've only seen 3 people use it and cyclist are still in the road It's so dangerous for both cars and professional cyclists

It was a ludicrous idea to narrow the roads causing more congestion in a town. And spending all that money when all they had to do was paint some cycle lanes.
